To those who may not know me:

I’m an assistant professor of English in Louisiana; I teach medieval literature. I work at the intersection of Middle English manuscripts, aesthetics, affect, and queerness. Talk to me about the Middle English Cleanness.
hello i’d like to report a direct attack on my personal thoughts and feelings

I'd argue framing it as a question at all has already conceded that the premise is potentially legitimate.
President Trump’s actions today with Venezuela raise more questions than answers. Is America going to be involved in running and stabilizing Venezuela? Today's actions raise many questions about the stability of the region and our policy towards South America.

oh they think we're going to forget about those vanity fair photos so easily? absolutely not.
the photographer was definitely like, "ok everybody, look tough!" but we know they're all just reading tweets with their arms crossed in a country club dining room divided up by bedsheets tacked to the beams

WHAT DO YOU DO BESIDES CAPITULATE??????
Asked about the possibility of impeachment, Schumer says "we hope that we can have support from our Republican colleagues to put a brake on this long before it gets that far"

The US has a pristine track record when it comes to interfering with foreign govern—

Wait what’s that? I’m getting word that the US is historically AWFUL when it comes to such things.

Well, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised by how blatant this is.
Trump: "We're going to have our very large United States oil companies go in, spend billions of dollars, fix the badly broken infrastructure and start making money for the country. And we are ready to stage a second and much larger attack if we need to do so."

I'll stop calling it slop when it stops being slop.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella says people should move beyond calling AI 'slop'

"We need to get beyond the arguments of slop vs sophistication and develop a new equilibrium ... that accounts for humans being equipped with these new cognitive amplifier tools as we relate to each other"

If you cannot account for the behavior of your AI (or, worse, you can and don't care), your model should not be provided to the public for use.

ability to make those really nice lines in a vacuumed carpet
How else can professors prove "merit" besides SAT scores? Wrong answers only. I'll go first: ability to do sixth-grade geometry homework (two professors in my house fail)

One reason graduate students should apply to UC Riverside’s graduate program.
True. Mine, for example. And we don't require standardized test scores because they're more trouble than they're worth.

Our scribes are no longer trained in Latin and French, and instead prefer to write in the vernacular!

What a world we live in.
It's 2026.

Things many American school kids probably don't know how to do:

* Dial a rotary telephone

* Tell time from an analog clock

* Read or write cursive

* Decipher Roman numerals

* Navigate with a paper map or use a compass

* Balance a checkbook

I’d like to think the skills I acquired during coursework, teaching, research, and completing a dissertation might have provided some insight into my potential as a faculty member.

Anyways, I never took the SAT so I guess I’d be out of luck? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
This article advocates for the “Faculty Merit Act” that would — get this — require all faculty applicants to submit their *SAT* scores. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Holy shirts that’s hilarious.

When universities tout their partnerships with OpenAI, parents, faculty and everyone really should be asking how they intend to account for the increasing evidence that their technology is hurting people, especially young and vulnerable people. How many instances of harm will be enough?
Uh… check out what ChatGPT allegedly told a man before he killed his mother and then himself.
