I got to see @grammartable.bsky.social 's "Rebel with a Clause" today and it was such a kick. Who knew a movie about grammar would have so many laughs! Highly recommended.

#StetWalk Down at the river's edge with Buddy, met an 8-year-old boy. He said, "My dad goes into the river pretty far sometimes—I mean not all the way into the current, but once, far enough that he was sort of swaying." Me: "Yeah? Did that make you nervous?" Boy: "Nah. Let him live his life."

I have a client who is 83. She has written an excellent paper but struggles with a lack of computer knowledge. Had a brainwave: called my son's best friend, who is 30, and he talked her through it all—and so patiently. I think he should start a business doing this. #AmEditing

Please, if you love anything about this life, stop using ChatGPT and other GenAI. Just stop. Don't use it to dunk on it, don't use it for a laugh, just stop and let that shit wither.

A nice email to start my day: "I am not easily impressed. You are the only editor with whom I have ever worked, to have exhibited such talent and in such an impeccable and efficient manner." From a literal rocket scientist!

Yes! Doing what you’re ‘supposed’ to, rather than what works for you, isn’t the same thing as pushing yourself out of your comfort zone – and it can be exhausting and counterproductive. Remember to be you, not someone else!

Thanks for the encouraging talk, @eagleeyeeditor.bsky.social 🙌

Another interesting point from Rob Drummond's talk at #CIEP2024: If you have someone change the way they say one particular sound, they'll also change other sounds, and their whole bearing changes, because of all the associations we have with how people speak.

Very much enjoyed Rob Drummond's talk at #CIEP2024. One interesting thing I learned: People are sometimes referred to speech therapy because the therapist thinks they have a speech disorder, but it's just their accent.
