Sorry 23rd largest city in America, you can’t fly out of your own airport because morons need to play with lasers.
In a normal government, this results in the resignation of multiple cabinet officials (Transportation, Defense, and Homeland Security), and the closure or (at least!) radical reorg of the cartoonishly incompetent agency at the center of it: CBP.

Nature's 'engine is grinding to a halt' as climate change gains pace, says study
Many ecologists hypothesize that, as global warming accelerates, change in nature must speed up. They assume that as temperatures rise and climatic zones shift, species will face local extinction and ...

Air pollution from burning fossil fuels causes 100,000 to 200,000 avoidable American deaths per year. At the EPA's statistical value of life of $10 million, these deaths cost America $1 to $2 trillion per year, every year. These costs far outweigh the costs of transitioning off of fossil fuels.

1/ ProPublica collected handwritten letters in mid-January from children held at the Dilley Immigration Processing Center, the same facility where 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos was taken.

Hundreds of kids are still detained.

We’ll let the children’s words speak for themselves. 🧵

If Epstein is Trending, Why Isn’t +1.7°C?
The news cycle has become a hall of mirrors: Epstein, Trumpism, war, outrage, retribution. A thousand scandals designed to keep us anxious, tribal, and tired. We have to hold multiple truths at once: ...

Just because the acute stage of a virus presents as flu or cold like symptom, it doesn’t mean the virus is done hurting your body. We need to fight for neutralizing vaccinations and clean air in shared spaces to prevent this kind of suffering.
“When my doctors told me that I had Hodgkin lymphoma, they shared the various molecular markers the biopsy revealed…‘It’s EBV positive,’ they told me. My cancerous cells bore the genetic fingerprints of Epstein-Barr virus.”
Opinion | A viral infection can have devastating effects. I experienced this firsthand.
The consequences of the anti-vaccine movement reach beyond today’s controversies.

It’s wild how much living in the objective truth and reality of this world has become completely optional for so many people.
While reporting this, I had something happen that's never happened. A comms rep for one of the co's disputed my reporting and said what I was telling them was untrue because it was not in Grok, xAI's chatbot.

I was looking directly at the files. And this person was using AI to challenge the truth.
Epstein had many known connections to Silicon Valley CEOs, but less known was how he made money from those relationships.

We did a deep dive into how he got dealflow in Silicon Valley, giving him shots to invest in Coinbase, Palantir, SpaceX and other companies.

A couple of miles away from me today, little girls made signs with markers and stickers and marched for the lives of their neighbors and friends. ICE tear gassed them in their faces. I want to puke and cry and scream. Fuck!

Along with taking prenatal vitamin, giving up alcohol and soft cheeses, masking should be a part of any health pregnancy. It’s bonkers we’re churning out a generation of medically high needs kids that our janky healthcare and education systems will not be able to support.

Anytime the truth is a bummer, people actively don’t want to hear it and will spin all kinda yarns in their heads to justify what they WANT to believe. Climate change won’t get that bad, Covid is just a cold, you can reform ICE with better training, etc. It’s really a fatal flaw in human beings.
The most interesting thing about this ABC Challenger long read (to me) is that the five engineers who warned it was unsafe then became "lepers".

Why is it not the managers who overruled them to suffer social ostracism?
