A network of Chinese influencers projects wealth by pooling funds for common Gucci stockings and fancy hotel rooms ("consumerist coop"?). Then comes the tragedy of the commons: the stockings aren't laundered and several get a fungal infection.

In case you were wondering, the solution to all this is NOT more neoliberalism, abundance bros, mass incarceration, meeting Nazis in the middle, deporting people, coddling billionaires, or throwing trans people under the bus.

A different news report says that members of Congress who inspected the facility today reported the wall they knocked down was made of drywall and wire mesh.

NYT found the “big beautiful bill” would be the largest transfer from the poor to the rich in a single law since at least 1990.
In fact, it would be the largest transfer *ever.*
Reagan’s low-income cuts were MUCH smaller - and his tax cuts were done separately. And before him, nothing comes close.

the question after that is why this scrutiny is directed at protestors rather than cops - who have every conceivable advantage on exactly this score (set personnel, formal responsibilities and hierarchies, etc) and who as a matter of public record consistently fail by exactly this standard

how this point interacts with the norms of commentary on protests: if it's true that *any* destruction and disruption will attract a disproportionate amount of attention, then fingerwaggers labeling protests and protestors basedon these scenes are in effect demanding blanket, total discipline
But if a few people in masks start lighting stuff on fire? Then you have news. This creates an *enormous* attentional advantage towards the most violent and chaotic kind of protest.

This is exactly what I mean when I say that it is impossible to reduce friction, only to move it around.
The text-making-up machine dropped the friction of "research" to zero, but every single person downstream of that "research" who has to act upon it now shoulders a double workload.

Librarian here. Got an email from a patron about our "poor selection" of books on AI, w/ list of new books that we HAD to get so ppl could stay informed about this important subject. Title, author, synopsis.
Of 11 titles on the list, 10 Did Not Exist. At all.

ICE raided his family’s North Philly car wash. Here is Jeffrey Lee’s account of what happened.
"They weren’t rude or anything, but they basically just told me 'We are here to take some illegals. If you don’t hear from us then don’t worry about it,'" said the car wash owner.
