As someone who spent ten years in grad school (and did defend + graduate) I’m always so weirded out by people who think being smart about one thing makes them smart about everything when what being highly educated did to me was saddle me with the crushing certainty that I’m not smart about anything
the pandemic really fucked him up. he had no expertise in public health, but felt like being a quant guy should make him an expert by default, and people not agreeing with him on that point just sent him into a bizarre radicalizing ego spiral.

What’s amusing to me about this scenario is that they got bailed out by the Biden admin, repaid it with going balls to the wall for Trump, and now are mistaking the completely dysfunctional shitshow they helped elect for an actual, functional government. Hahahaha lmao
almost certainly a group-chat panic on the scale of the SVB bank run happening rn

With all the excitement about the election I don’t want this story to get lost. This morning 8 car wash workers in Boston were kidnapped by federal agents in the largest workplace raid in the area in recent memory.
The details are horrifying.

This is the way the normalization works. Scenes the media would've/could've chased a month ago go ignored in favor of what's new/shocking. It's not that people aren't reporting on what's happening, because they are. But the bar for what's "newsworthy" always shifts.

This is, pardon my language, FUCKING BULLSHIT! @leximcmenamin.com is a top tier journalist who had a great interview with Mamdani THIS WEEKEND!!! The kind the NYT could never do. It’s bullshit of Anna Wintour to destroy the TV politics desk on the eve of a mayoralty they were born to cover
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.
certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

I made a Gofundme. Depending on the outcome I will either hire an expensive immigration lawyer and give it one more try, or pack up and use the money to start over.

Why did Indiana University attack and cut its own student newspaper?
Well, in a twist of irony any English professor would call clichéd, it turns out IU did it because they were angry about the students' reporting on a FIRE report naming IU as the worst public university for free speech in the US.
