What I did is unfollow a lot of news accounts but put them in a separate list so it's a column that doesn't appear on my primary feed, but I can get my news if I want to and stay informed. Highly recommend it.
step two, mute the news updates. do not get news in your feed. check the news if you must. do not. get them. on your feed.

follow a bunch of artists that you like and whenever they repost cool art, follow that artist too
soon your timeline will be a steady stream of wonderful art interspersed with news updates on the horrors

A disturbing update to this story: Despite the fact that he was about to be released from a US prison after completing a sentence here, when Kelvin Membreño was deported to El Salvador he was sent to CECOT prison and remains there. The family has not heard from him since.
NEW — Kelvin Membreño will be deported to El Salvador by ICE tomorrow. He’s the birth father of three US citizen daughters and has become an important part of their lives.
