Social psychologist concerned about inequality, misinformation, conspiracy theories, and online subcultures. Ethical vegan. Often targeted by trolls; Never bothered by them. Views always my own. She/her/doorknob depends who you ask.

I had the pleasure of listening to my colleague @thorabjorns.bsky.social lecturing my class on the psychology of social class.

Most arresting were her depictions of perceptions of inequality. We vastly underestimate the wealth divide by a huge magnitude.

The wealthiest hold 48.6% the poorest .02%

Discussion with an old friend last night about veganism.

She genuinely thought cows ‘give’ us milk. She did not know the milk was intended for their calves.

She honestly believed cows felt no fear, or pain on slaughter, she thought they were stunned on leaving the truck.

Not stupid, duped.

For pointing out that the BBC is regularly accused of being biased towards the right wing, I’ve been advised my TDS is showing. If you don’t know; that refers to Trump Derangement Syndrome, and it’s the new way to dismiss any critique of the bronzed, bouffant incumbent of the White House.

I attended a beautiful remembrance service this morning. I couldn’t help but notice the lack of ‘patriots’ though? Since poppies, our fallen heroes, and respect is such a strong narrative in their ‘ranks’, where were they? Why did they not venture out in the pouring rain to demonstrate remembrance?

‘It’ always starts with words. We can track the genesis of genocide in similar ways. First they stereotype and discriminate. Then they become prejudicial. From there it’s ‘easy’ to dehumanise, divide, and attack. Once there is an ‘us’ and a clearly stigmatised ‘them’, then persecution is fair game.

I’ve spent the last 3 days tracking right-wing influencers morning and night. What I found is a machine, not a movement. Every day follows the same rhythm of fear, outrage, and punishment. It’s emotional conditioning disguised as news. #Voices4Victory #DemVoice1 #USDemocracy #ProudBlue

Loved this lecture. Shining a light on all the horrors of intensive animal agriculture and the hypocrisies of those who support it.

Ofc I discussed the trolling I’ve received; and how I’ve both risen above it and used it to promote productive change.

Happy World Vegan Day 🌱

Vaccine scepticism is driven by misinformation AND distrust with both being predictors of decisions not to vaccinate during the covid-19 pandemic.

Regarding distrust of the Govt, the researchers found that specific concerns, and not general distrust, were predictive.

Be aware. Be very aware. Musk is whipping up racial violence within the U.K. and he owns the platform upon which much of it is fomented. This is why I got out of X, I won’t fund this sort of unrestrained violent rhetoric. I won’t be associated with it, no matter how you carve it up - it’s wrong.
Elon Musk continues to try to socialise civil war, political & inter-ethnic violence in Britain. He combines an argument that violence is inevitable with his call at the Tommy Robinson rally for pre-emptive violence, on grounds of an existential threat & the inevitability of violence

ChatGPT regularly over promises. “I can make that into an interactive heat map for you. Would you like me to?”

“Ohh yes please”

Cue ‘analysing’ for 20 minutes.

“Are you making the interactive heat map?”

“No. It seems I don’t have access to that”

“Why did you promise it?”

“I’m sorry.”

It’s worth noting that recent estimates have found that 90% of the population’s political opinions are being represented by less than 3% of tweets (for example) online.

The media hyperbole around Farage and Reform is likely to create a minority influence effect 🤦🏻‍♀️

At last. Some hard talking from Labour.

4% less growth long term isn’t going to help Farage, neither is the fact that the boats did not stop.

But even then, it was never the boats causing inflation, under investment, or inequality was it?
Farage “will argue that the heroic liberation dream was traduced by cowardice in the implementation but even that puts him in complicity with disappointment. Simpler to change the subject”

So, don’t let him. His lies got us into this mess. Only truth gets us out.

This is where we’re at with widespread, ‘legitimised’ misinformation/distortion of truth/propaganda 👇🏻
Dunno man, seems a little misleading to write an article about Trump describing activity in Portland and Chicago as “insurrection” with a 33 year old photo of a burning donut shop taken in the 1992 LA Riots (sans caption explaining that) as the header on all your posts about it.

There’s no place in Eurovision for military aggressors, countries run by dictators, or those perpetrating genocidal actions.

I realise individual citizens or singers are not responsible for the actions of their governments or military. But Eurovision, for me, is about unity, acceptance, and joy.

Great example of the illusory truths which pervade our media channels. It seems plausible and lots of people are saying it, ergo, it *must* be true. Even when it is completely false, the damage done by blind and malevolent sharing means distrust and suspicious are fuelled and the facts obscured.
I spoke to a few people, including journalists, at Labour conference who had seen and believed claims on X that Multiverse – Tony Blair's son's company – had been chosen to run the government’s new digital ID scheme

What I’d like to see is a comparison between the contribution of the average Reform voter/supporter vs the contributions of the immigrants with indefinite leave to remain whom they seek to vanquish and remove.

Our society, what tattered remains would be left of it under Reform, would crumble.
Just fuck off with this. How about start the conversation by highlighting how much immigrants contribute to the UK - not least by propping up the NHS and social care system!

Also - forced volunteering is not volunteering, it's unpaid labour.

If you have to resort to distracting your opponent, you were never really in the game.

Abuse has no place in any sort of sporting arena and, the more we allow it, the more normalised it becomes.

It is not ok to denigrate your opponent. It’s literally not sport.

There are indeed religious, including sharia courts in the U.K. They deal with family law and marital disputes. They are not legally binding, and unless you are Muslim, much like a mosque, you’ll likely never see inside one unless you make that choice.

More weaponised fear.

Billy Bragg, "There are also Jewish courts as well, thats part of their religion. We as a tolerant nation accept that"

"To demonise, particularly the Muslims, is the sort of thing we worry about Reform UK"
