Sam Watterston went to my church in NYC. Evening service. I don’t really watch tv so I didn’t know who he was. At coffee hour I went up and introduced myself, he did the same … and I asked him what line of work he was in.

Mind you this was the height of “Law& Order”
Right folks. Feeling rather down at the moment so bringing back an oldie

UPDATE: the weak points in the perimeter have been reinforced with flagstones and bricks. When Miss Thing made for her escape route she looked at them in a way that I can only describe as incredulity 1/2
I now have some idea of that mix of relief and frustration and anger when parents say

“Next time you do that you’ll wish you stayed out!”

Anyway the guilty party is ‘grounded’ while we implement fence reenforcement measures. /end

Just watched the new Knives Out and I think it's really important you know that the scene in the Seminary's Gym is filmed in the same place Rick Astley filmed the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up.

I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.

Adventures in Cat-Dadding.

Good morning. We have a fenced in yard so the cats can run around, pretend like they’re hunting on the Savannah, etc. Etc.

Yesterday after church I let out the orange one. Some time had passed and then it seems quiet… too quiet as they say 1/x

Someone I knew in nyc bought Andy Rooney’s apt on the upper west side. This was c 02/03. Mr Rooney left his peas in the freezer.

Every time we went to the apt we had the Viewing of the Peas as well as other Knick knacks left behind.
"I own William Faulker's cake knife," a sentence that is both straightforward and true, and yet sounds completely deranged

Holy smokes our fledgling men’s group (sponsored by but not affiliated w the parish) had more new ppl than regulars this morning.

Good morning. I remember a former boss of mine at the bank saying over the phone to one his friends

“Look I don’t like it either but mother always said taxes keep the pitchforks at bay. Turns out she was right.”
A wealth tax is the timid, moderate compromise measure. Which is to say it’s the one that avoids torches and pitchforks.
Billionaires are considering cutting or reducing their ties to California by the end of the year because of a proposed ballot measure that could tax the state’s wealthiest residents.

A few commonalities …

You escape a ship only to be washed ashore … somewhere

You need to track down and find some companions.

A shovel is one of the most important pieces of equipment.

Larian’s dry wit and mild sarcasm
Started my first run at Divinity Original Sin 2 by @larianstudios.com playing as Fane who seems really interesting.

These are the folks who brought us BG3 so I’m stoked.

Escaped the prison ship and am now in the process of collecting companions and um a pet squirrel …

Tempted to add “tired of being governed by losers” to all my social media bios.
Great piece by @thorbenson.bsky.social

“I'm tired of being governed by losers
From the White House to Silicon Valley, the lamest people on the planet are holding onto the reins of power.”

Good morning. IME I would also add certain kinds of Christians. Some might remember when I started my current post 18 mos ago when word got around the gay priest came to town. Who to add insult to injury was married. 1/x
Every jaw in the room dropped. He had done the unthinkable. He had not only told them his beliefs, but he had done it with the equal degree of certainty that they had employed in telling him theirs. And there's this unspoken rule in America: Only Christians are allowed to do this.

Last night during the sermon I said “and you know there are reasons why the first words an angels says are “fear not!”

Kid in the back promptly STANDS UP in his pew and says quite clearly “FEAR NOT!”

Me (without missing a beat by no other reason than grace of God) . EXACTLY! JUST LIKE THAT!

It’s our parish deacon’s first Christmas ever as a Deacon so that’s pretty cool.

The fourth Sunday of Advent is one of the most honest days of the church year. Christmas feels like it’s here but it hasn’t yet come.

It’s a day when we wait, hope, and wonder. A day we offer up all the longings in our hearts and souls to God and hope those longings will be answered.

This is your occasional reminder that telling people “no, fuck off” (in @angryblacklady.blacksky.app parlance) can be an edifying spiritual practice in an appropriate context

An alternative interpretation of that phrase can be “bless your heart”
Like we literally do not have to take these fucking jagoffs or their thought experiments seriously. And when you tell them they’re full of shit they can’t function because they’ve only ever been told they’re exceptional

I’m a proud graduate of the NC public school system and I approve this tribute.

Fun fact: my mom flew into RDU once and Gov Hunt was in the seat next to her. This was in the early 80s. Dad and I met mom at the gate and she said “Dennis, David, I’d like you to meet governor James Hunt.”
There was a time when the Old North State was a shining example of strong support for public education from the earliest grades through the university level, and Jim Hunt in the role of governor was at the heart of that reputation. He loved North Carolina.

May light perpetual shine upon him.

At our midweek service our resident toddler (who readers may remember fell asleep at some point between the taize the readings and the silence) runs in and says with great joy “it’s quiet time! Grandpa remember we have to be quiet now!”

At my newcomers class a few expressed interest in how the different “Anglican” groups in the US came to be.

I said it was really messy. “How messy?” They asked. I called up this gif and said “THIS messy.”

Reader, we moved on to something edifying.

Celebrant: In January.

A tale of two cats, a continuing occasional series (ahem)

A knock at the door… one cat growls(!) and runs to the door and jumps on the furniture to see who it is, tail all a-twitching

The second … hides under the bed.

Sometimes people will try and cut you down and tell you in no uncertain terms about the job you’re doing.

And before and after that happens God will send people along to affirm you’re in the right spot.

All that is say remember haters gonna hate and don’t forget to be open to God reassurance
