Physiotherapist about to tape my back: “Are you sensitive to adhesives?”

“Oh yeah, very, I get rashes pretty consistently from almost all adhesives and also I don’t give a single fuck, if it’ll help the back pain even a tiny bit I do not care one whit about a fucking rash.”

Listening to Vancouver Council budget discussion in the background this morning. In response to a question from @seanorr.bsky.social about where they'll be retracting from the city just said they're planning to REMOVE baby changing tables and menstrual product dispensers to save costs. Shameful.

The Internet is wild. With some details off my great grandfathers WW1 medals, I was able to find the house my grandmother lived in when she was 4 in 1918.

What a world.

Worth noting that because Sim brought forward his proposal for a property tax freeze requiring millions in cuts with just weeks left in the budget process, this is not up for public debate and is not outlined in the documents available to councillors when they vote on this
SCOOP: Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim is planning to eliminate the city's sustainability and climate department under the guise of a push to prevent increases to property taxes in his proposed 2026 budget.
Great source work by Marc Fawcett-Atkinson to uncover this

Folks, MATH FOR KNITTERS is listed as a pre-order at @microcosm.bsky.social because the reprint is making its way to their warehouses. They sold out of the first batch of books I sent them. A good challenge to face, and more books are on the move as I type this. Thanks for your patience!

Home sick with a migraine while my spouse is in the office and he’s STILL taking care of me by ordering me lunch so I don’t have to make any more decisions today. (I worked a half day due to deadlines and I’ve used up all my thinky for the day.)

Ok maybe marriage is pretty cool.

Notes:
- The speed limit on the bike route is 30 km/h. I was doing the speed limit.
- Motorists in BC are *required* to give people on bikes at least 1m (3.3 ft) passing distance.
- All safe cycling instruction will tell you not to weave in and out of the travel lane, stay out of the door zone

My column today, on how police departments' car-first attitude makes them say the darnedest things. Like "leave your e-bike at home."
The scariest part of Halloween is drivers — yet police departments blame bikes and kids
For pedestrians, the message is common-sense — wear bright and reflective clothing, don’t dart into traffic, watch where you’re going — but in its tunnel vision, the overall impression veers into vict...

3:02pm in front of my kids school. Around 500 students go here.

School pickup doesn’t have to be a traffic nightmare.

(Yes, some parents drive, but they tend to park nearby and walk in, you generally see one or two cars go by every 30 seconds or so.)

Back to work after two weeks off: 882 unread emails. I can delete… 39 of them without glancing. Probably just need to skim 800 of them. The remaining may need attention.

Oh and 19 company bulletins, one of which would have been nice to have in advance since there’s a detour to get INTO the office.
