I accidentally wrote a thread on paradigmatic change in general & specifically the challenges for the success of the neurodiversity paradigm & why some autistic ppl may be hostile towards it but (even more so) shouldn’t be left behind that I’m semi-happy with. Design justice & all that jazz innit
You're speaking my language Sam 💚 problem is, how to make those ideas accessible and not scary for those who struggle with that level of conceptual flexibility and - dare I even say it - playfulness (even tho the impact is deadly serious).
Molly really doesn’t like going out into the rain. That’s a new protest sit I haven’t seen before though 😆

🧵 why I still firmly believe we should never, ever have automated decision making anywhere near the public sector.
Flaws and glitches are minor concerns easily dismissed. Being “mid” is fine because someone can promise this will get less mid and plenty of people are willing to believe. GenAI isn’t mid. It’s linear algebraic sociopathy.

Rude. (by which I mean fully accurate)
Christine Smout, 24, reportedly felt her blood run cold and saw the colour drain from her face in her reflection as she contemplated the prospect of continuing the course of driving lessons she began of her own free will, and actually pays money for.

An AuDHD woman was forced to reckon with the transience of existence this morning when she remembered halfway through brushing her teeth that she has a driving lesson in three days, it has been…

For the semiotics nerds in the back.
Zohran picked 「卓蘭」("excellent orchid") for his first name and「夸梅」("brilliant plum") for his middle name.

The orchid and the plum are among "The Four Noble Ones" in traditional Chinese art, the former symbolizing an indifference to fame and fortune, the latter an indomitable, incorruptible spirit.

If you want to know how the insights industry is doing in the UK, one of my old (very experienced) colleagues is currently retraining to be a long distance truck driver.

I don't usually go for scented teas but this Rice Oolong is *so lovely*.

Khao Hom Fragrant Rice Oolong is scented with a local 'sticky rice' plant. It has sweet creamy vanilla notes with a fragrant rice aroma.

Who could have ever predicted that risk with automated decision making on services that materially impact people 🙄 what's a real problem is the ideology of 'fraud chasing' not based on data, just stereotypical vibes.

Interesting form dilemma. I'm filling in Health and Care Experience survey (came in the post) and here's a question. Scratching my head how I'm supposed to answer that. Do they mean any appointment? Because yes, technically, but never face to face; it's always a phone appointment. So is that a no?

To add to my previous point, I would have been deported already under those rules as my income was technically under that amount after the redundancy for 6 months when I was recovering from burnout 🙃 I had settlement money to give me that space ofc but I somehow doubt there’d be exceptions for that.
Mass deporting millions of people legally living here in order to make the UK "culturally coherent" is "broadly in line" with Conservative party policy, says Kemi Badenoch's spokesman

Inclusion can’t come from erasure.
Removing neurodiversity and diagnosis from education doesn’t create belonging—it silences it.
True inclusion means recognising difference, not pretending it isn’t there.

In my hurry this evening, I took a slow train from Edinburgh to Glasgow 😭 rookie mistake undeserving of my 7 years and counting here 😂

In my defence, I just made it so had no time to check. Classic way to do sth so silly.

To the uninitiated, we’re talking a train that stops 4 times vs a million

BREAKING: Pope Leo XIV is set to effectively disband Opus Dei in the coming weeks.

This would be the most sweeping internal reform of his pontificate — and a dramatic continuation of Pope Francis’s legacy.
NEW: Pope Leo Set To Break Up Opus Dei
If Pope Leo does indeed approves a plan that effectively dissolves Opus Dei’s structure, it would be the most significant internal action of his short pontificate to date.

Im once again reminded that the reason I think I’ve become a slow reader in later age is because I started reading way more non-fiction which requires a different kind of focus and doesn’t always grip attention the same way as good fiction, even if interesting.
