Well hello! Looking forward to more intelligent conversation than being swarmed by irrational mobs. I’m a family doctor and an engineer. I never met a system or a process I didn’t want to improve. I’m currently in Alberta but considering escape. I have two pomskies, three adult kids and a cat.

xAI has disabled Grok, deleted a slew of its antisemitic and neo-Nazi posts, posted a statement, and are evidently rolling back the prompt that made it identify as "MechaHitler," but this new low for Elon Musk's chatbot will live in internet infamy:
Elon Musk's Grok Chatbot Goes Full Nazi, Calls Itself 'MechaHitler'
Elon Musk's Grok chatbot has unleashed a slew of antisemitic commentary and praised Hitler after apparent change allowed to be 'politically incorrect'

Important thread to read. #abhealth #abpoli
Albertans should be paying attention and be VERY concerned:
Govt is marching forward with privatizing all of our HC system.
Many many concerns w selling off hospitals to private for-profits:

Opinion: What's next in for-profit care in Alberta? Your local hospital?
25 years after Klein passed Bill 11, that opened the door to more private for-profit involvement in health care, the UCP is at it again.

The turnout in small towns across the country has been incredible drawing crowds of thousands. We’re already seeing over one million in attendance nationwide, and events are still underway. Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Ohio all had especially surprising showings.

In more uplifting news, 1,000 people protested ICE’s abduction of a mother and children at the home of the agency’s acting head Tom Homan.

Notably, the entire population of the town is just 1,450.

Do not normalize children dying from measles. Measles was previously eliminated in the US, thanks to vaccines.

When children die from measles, it means that adults have catastrophically failed to protect them because they have rejected basic science.

What is a bigger deal, IMO, is that the New York Times is still leading with this, even as the largest mass protest is US history is happening.

Even the Amazon Post is doing better. Even the LA Times is leading with the protests.
This is a very big deal. Trump is systematically dismantling the protections against foreign (e.g. Russian) interference in our elections.

Today was a good start. Next we will see how it is reported…

Is it buried? Is it framed weirdly? Is the one incident of violence amplified?

And then, what happens next? Do the millions who didn’t come out today realize that they have power if they only use it?

Or does this fade out and die?
Two common misconceptions are on my mind today: 1. Overestimating the power of a single day of protest. 2. Underestimating the power of a single day of protest.

Let’s go with “Over 1% of the US population” as a lower bound on how many people took the streets today to say #handsoff

Tied for the 3rd-largest protest in US history

George Floyd / Black Lives Matter (2020, 15-26 M)

Earth Day (1970, 20 M)

Women’s March (2017, 3.3-5.6 M)

How’s the reporting?

Okay lets game this out: You are a Nintendo employee given unlimited funds and authority to move Switch 2 production to the US. No new factories, that's going to take way too long, you need to work with existing American Contract Manufacturing capacity. How fast can you do it?

Okay so, hear me out.

Did Trump just put /SANCTIONS/ on the United States?

The effect of a universal tariff is to cut the US out of the global economy. But the global economy does not have to follow suit.

What will we see if the world responds by lowering trade barriers on all BUT America?
One of the benefits of interdependent markets across the globe and highly liquid futures markets is the ability to see Trump's economic policies fail without interruption at night and on weekends.

When flight attendants asked how they could safely evacuate detainees, whose wrists were shackled to their ankles, in the case of an emergency, they were told to save themselves. The utter disregard for the sanctity of human life is beyond shameful.
