Make copies, preserve them, create a parallel black list, hide this list.
Deleting research from databases or from being found renders knowledge as good as non-existent.

I love libraries and archives and museums. To read about the history of work to maintain libraries and share histories I suggest you skip my piece and just go buy this book (or! request it at your local library!) but if you need to be convinced, here:

Love my job. Love all the ethical questioning it swims in. Love that it is so embedded in society. Love that it is about public and common good. Love that its independence is a sign of a working democracy.

This post by a former NARA employee is good, outlining some of its powers and responsibilities.

I knew that NARA administered the Electoral College. There’s a lot of similarly important stuff.

It will *not be good* for the next Archivist of the United States to be a Trump stooge.

So, the issues of preservation of records, evidence and memory have arrived already.

#NoDemocracyWithoutArchives
Deleting the database appears to violate 44 U.S.C. § 3106 which requires that agencies notify the archivist upon the removal or deletion of federal records. There is no indication that the DOJ reported the deletion to the National Archives and Records Administration.

Every time I am in the office, I walk past this. It is a remembrance of members of the University community who have died recently.
