It feels wrong to be very happy.
There is so much darkness, so much pain out there. It feels uneasy to be this happy right now.

Interesting perspective on the two terms of the Irish president Michael D Higgins, which end tonight.
Perhaps the most popular Irish man in Ireland, he has used his office to speak for the nation & for social justice. His successor has big shoes to fill, & is also a socialist. A good read:

We were very lucky to have him during the Decade of Centenaries. He has a nuanced and intelligent vision of the past and a deep understanding of the impact of violence and division on a nation. Real humanity.
He'll be missed.
Looking forward to a new chapter with Catherine Connolly. Another CC!

This is attempted murder
So it wasn't fireworks. It was a calculated and deliberate attempt at the mass murder of men, women and children.

Firefighters rescued five people, including three children under ten, from the top floor of an Ipas centre in Drogheda last night after a major fire.
Gardaí have preserved the scene while the cause of the blaze is investigated.

Looking forward to the IT giving people the opportunity of saying why we voted in record numbers for Catherine Connolly. They might learn a bit about Ireland.
