Retired archivist & museums professional, based in Newcastle upon Tyne but still Welsh. Luxury views my own
Interested to see from this that Capaldi's grandfather was from Picinisco - also the origin of the Marcantonio (Mark Toney) family of Newcastle as anyone who's been to Discovery Museum's Destination Tyneside will know www.northeastmuseums.org.uk/discoverymus...

🛠️ Most people today encounter Dunston Staiths as a quiet heritage site. In the 1970s, it was a dangerous place of work.

A new film by Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen and Peter Roberts brings that history back into view → sidegallery.co.uk/blog/coal-staiths-of-the-river-tyne

Just a month ago the UK agreed to a deal in which the NHS has to pay £3bn a year more for US drugs.

The only thing we got was an agreement the UK would face no tariffs.

Today that deal has been broken by the USA.

The deal must be torn up and no money stolen from the NHS.

This is nostalgic. When I was studying to be an archivist copies of these files were what they gave us to practice cataloguing on for some reason
Drawing on government files & secret publications ‘The Arab Bureau’ by Eamonn Gearon is the fascinating story of Britain’s ingenious intelligence unit during WWI.

This piece doesn't specify what the question asked actually was, so while I live in Tyne & Wear (clearly in the North), if asked, I would not say I was a Northerner

#NewcastleUponTyne John Sykes gives this report in his Local Records for this day in history, 14th January 1774. The river Tyne for about four miles below the bridge at Newcastle was frozen over, and several hundreds of people amused themselves.

Posting my own book for anyone who needs reminding that photographs are not ‘the past as it really happened’, the Tutankhamun excavation doesn’t has to be presented as a heroic white male adventure, and what institutions and disciplines choose to prioritise tells you quite a lot about them. 🗃️🏺📷📸

Yesterday Martin Chivers, today Terry Yorath - RIP both
Terry Yorath was a giant of Welsh football and key to my own relationship with it. His picture always jumped out at me in 70s Shoot albums. He was Swansea manager when I first started going to matches. He managed the 1st Wales team I cared about. A real hero.

Nothing new....I wonder if he bothered to knock
I found this in a 1920s book owned by my grandfather, being used as a bookmark. Such a beautiful little note. William Pile was a bookshop, stationer and printer in Sutton. It’s a sorry you were out and we couldn’t deliver note.
