Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

Mother Fletcher meant the world to Tulsa. We're gonna miss her.
As a survivor of the Tulsa Race Massacre, Viola Ford Fletcher bravely shared her story so that we’d never forget this painful part of our history. Michelle and I are grateful for her lifelong work to advance civil rights, and send our love to her family.

It's honestly a good indication of why this group of people are so heavily invested in AI. They can't communicate like normal human beings, let alone intelligent people.
Something that’s so striking in these emails is how…unimpressive Epstein is. He comes off as a pompous, sub-literate lech. Yes everyone is so mortifyingly solicitous of him! All fawning and flattery! Why?????

If you have tenure at Texas A&M and aren't maliciously emailing the president a dozen times every day to ask if you can say this or you can say that, then what's the point in having tenure?

When I grew up, there were few monikers more damning than "snitch." If you called the cops for any reason that wasn't life threatening or having your own property stolen, you were a herb. Surveillance capitalism has turned people into such fucking losers.
According to the car wash owner, agents arrested employees before they could obtain their documentation from their work lockers. So many were likely here legally.

Here's hoping this article on Zac boasting about how he ruined some immigrants' lives follows him around for a very long time.

Yeah, it's a tech toy for weird little freaks. Not everyone who buys them will do so for little freak purposes, I suppose. But if you wear the little freak glasses, you're playing in the creep pool.
“I'm not saying these are glasses for creeps, but I can't help but feel like one while wearing them.”

Reader, they are for creeps.

Decades after the worst of white folks burned the Black Wall Street to cinders, they built a highway over the ashes. It has been impossible to rebuild the Greenwood community to its former glory because of that overpass. That was by design.
“From the 1950s to the 1970s, federal contractors building the system deliberately mapped routes that rammed through and dismantled Black neighborhoods — payback, some say, for gains made during the Civil Rights Movement.”
Why Do Highways Run Through Black Neighborhoods?

Do other people not call older family friends "auntie" and "uncle"? Is this new to some people? Hell, every friend of mine my daughter sees regularly is an aunt or uncle. This is dumb.
In a bit of a tense moment, one of the La Mega co-hosts presses Mamdani on why he "lied" about his "aunt" having been scared to ride the subway after 9/11 while wearing a hijab.

Mamdani says it was "not a lie" because he refers to his father's cousin as his "aunt."
