I have been screaming this to the heavens for years and it’s lovely to see more people noticing: BEING safe is a right, FEELING safe is between you and your therapist. And the demand to FEEL safe is constantly weaponized to deprive other people of their real, actual safety.
One thing the NYC mayoral race underscored for me is how easily the phrase "I don't feel safe" can be weaponized. It's an argument I would hesitate ever to use again, even for a good cause. I hope we can all agree that we have the right to BE safe. Maybe we should leave it at that.

Treasury is required to produce a report to Congress related to Direct File, the free tax filing option that the current administration intends to kill. They've created a survey with a bunch of leading questions. The survey deserves some responses supportive of the program to counteract its framing:

3: going in a different direction, but on the topic of dragons – “to Shape a Dragon’s Breath” by Moniquill Blackgoose, one of my favorite books of last year. A masterpiece. If you haven’t yet had the joy of reading this one, I highly recommend it. (ft. some calligraphy I did when it came out)

I always get so much joy out of attending Worldcons - so many notes to take, so many wonderful people I meet for the first or second or fifth time. The best of the best is when I walk up to the table after a panel and someone goes “IT’S YOU”. and I get to go “it’s me :)” 💜

Unless you have a tremendous platform, posting is not activism. Boycotting is activism; organizing is activism; having the hard conversations with people who don’t already agree with you is activism; putting your body on the line to disrupt means of production is activism. Posting is just posting.
