It’s incredible that they have this level of paranoia about China and then support a president actively undermining our efforts to counter it.
HINSON: As a mom, I think about watching a baby monitor. That's a very intimate moment with your baby and to think the Chinese could be spying on your morning routine

BARTIROMO: Why are they spying on moms?

HINSON: They just want to know what Americans are up to to undermine our way of life

I’ve been a renter and a homeowner. I don’t love voting for new property taxes, but I do it for the greater good. If Portland does well, real estate prices go up, which is good for me the homeowner, so can Dan Ryan please chill out for a second?
Councilor Sameer Kanal diagnosed the different sides of this issue as “status quo versus change.” He pointed out that half of Portlanders are renters, but they've been underrepresented in local leadership, and cast aside accordingly. Ryan seemed to take that as an affront to homeowners like himself.

What will be interesting to see is if there are knock-on effects. Big companies like Microsoft will pressure their vendors to adopt similar processes, so will we see those vendors also back off from diversity reports?
Tech companies are backing away from creating diversity reports.

Microsoft, which released its annual diversity and inclusion report in 2024, is choosing to not do one in 2025.

The high cost of childcare is the number one reason my partner and I never had kids. If Republicans actually want more American-born children, they’d do well to replicate this nationwide (gift link)

This works for toothpaste, not for lifesaving treatments, but what do I know.
Cassidy: "If she goes and gets 2 types of shampoo & one is a dollar cheaper, she'll get the cheaper one & the other lowers their price. Once you give her the power of making the decision, she's gonna shop -- that begins to save her money and squeezes waste out of the healthcare system."

You might not have caught what just happened on the Senate floor, but the Senate just “deemed as passed” the Epstein resolution.

That means as soon as it arrives from the House, it automatically passes the Senate (with no amendments) and heads to the President’s desk.

Wow.

Maybe we shouldn’t replicate federal tax code anymore?
The Oregon Legislature is meeting this week to consider some major cuts to current spending levels as a large revenue deficit looms. That’s because the state’s tax code automatically replicates new federal tax cuts, including ones passed this summer that will reduce state revenue. buff.ly/kIxKhTd

If we didn’t still have pervasive sexism I’m pretty sure the only use the government would have for gender is statistics.
For medical files you need to record somebody's sex, of course that's relevant for doctors. But my driver's license doesn't list all my medical info that's irrelevant for using it as an ID (or driving). We could get along just fine without listing sex/gender on stuff where it simply doesn't matter.
