Without asylum:

Marks and Spencer wouldn't exist

Queen would have been without a front man

The other queen wouldn't have had a husband

Judith Kerr would never have written The Tiger Who Came to Tea

And thousands of less famous people wouldn't have been teachers, politicians, neighbours, etc

again, i am not exaggerating

A wonderful tribute.
The news of Conor Gearty's death has just been announced and I'm not coping. He was a mentor and the pole star in my constitutional thinking. He was also a great friend and fantastic fun to be around. I'm heartbroken for Aoife and the children.

Awful news about the death of the great Conor Gearty.

Perhaps the kindest and most encouraging law professor imaginable.

A dreadful loss to the study of civil liberties and constitutional law.

London has a tube strike and I'm listening to the audiobook A Particularly Nasty Case by Adam Kay. It's 20 years since he and Suman Biswas released the song London Underground after another tube strike. I remember a colleague sharing it with me. Been a fan ever since.

I’m sick of Westminster politicians blaming migration for their failures.

Immigrants are our NHS staff, our carers, our neighbours. We are a welcoming nation and I’m proud of that.

It’s not migration that pushed down living standards - it’s Brexit, austerity and rising bills.
