this remains the, like... central thing in all cases here.

the benefits of avoiding being cruel have nothing to do at all with if it is 'justified' or who 'deserves' it. the primary benefit is that you won't fuck yourself up. you won't turn your brain into a blade that demands blood.
Sometimes, as a joke, people will call normal political shit bullying - but, like, mailing your reps and threatening to not vote for them? That's not bullying, that's just normal civic engagement.

bullying and harassment, even against bad people, is bad for you, as a person, it makes your brain bad
It is incredible how people will just find a way to tell you that bullying is okay

Jack Duffy attaches a respirator to his bagpipes to play through tear gas. “I always play it whenever the police retreat because it's like, ‘You fucking ran while we stayed,’” he says.

Even if millions of white Americans understood the authoritarian nature of the threat, there is a visceral quality to the realization forced by the images of the public executions in the streets of Minneapolis that is different: We are all at risk. And if we don’t act, we are all implicated.

production of The Muppet Show should not be dependent on petty vulgarities like “ratings” or “revenue.” it should be preserved as a vital function of american culture. it should have a taxpayer-funded budget rivaling the CIA

i am trying not to joke about the Epstein stuff because it's so horrible but there's also this ridiculous element where it's like... discovering Dracula is real, he's taken over human society at the highest levels, he's involved in tons of evil and also he's a huge dipshit

This is one reason that my definition of extremism doesn't include hate for out-groups, only the belief that out-groups must be harmed. You don't have to waste time on motive. If they believe an out-group must be harmed for the in-group's success or survival, that's enough to make the call.

I don’t know if this will help any of my other neurodivergent peeps, but you know what I’m doing a lot of now? Logic puzzles. The little grids with “Bob has brown hair and killed either the dragon or the kraken, but not on Tuesday” clues. Having to focus so intently shuts up the anxiety for a bit.

Cats are liquid and graceful and fluffy, but they can also manage to jump down from something with the sound of an elephant's stomp, or run around the house like a herd of bulls. Can anyone explain this?
