Ed Husic on the money: gas industry profiteering is costing Australians
Ed Husic’s ‘breaking ranks with Labor’ speech in parliament yesterday which claimed gas exporters are profiteering from Australians and driving up domestic energy prices, is right on the money and wel...

This is a disgrace. Every single MP and Senator who voted for this should lose their seat.

Forget politics, it violates a fundamental legal principle: you're innocent until proven guilty.

I hope the High Court quashes this on a challenge. It's clearly punitive action by the executive.

Thanks @senatorthorpe.bsky.social @andrewwilkiemp.bsky.social @davidpocock.bsky.social @pennyallmanpayne.com for trying to stop this dangerous law.
Shame Labor shame: New powers to cancel Centrelink payments before conviction pass the senate
Welfare recipients have a right to be treated equally under the law, and should not be subject to punishment before having access to legal advice for any reason, ever.

A reminder that a warrant is NOT proof of guilt.

This is executive overreach.

Essentially: lose parental leave pay, social security payment, or family assistance, if there's a warrant for your arrest (for violent or sexual crime) OR if you "might prejudice the security of Australia or a foreign country".

As if carbon offsets weren’t a big enough fraud…welcome to the world of ‘biodiversity offsets’…sure the idea failed dismally in NSW but Murray Watt is keen to have a crack…

what could go wrong?

Just even more extinctions i suppose…#climate #nature

How many extra possums does it take to compensate for a dead platypus?
That’s the kind of calculation a bureaucrat would literally have to make under Environment Minister Murray Watt’s new ‘environmental laws’.

Who're the parties that'll be served by the @albomp.bsky.social govt ramming regressive EPBC laws thru parliament by year's end, & why do they feature in the Business Council of Australia-led 'Alliance of 26 industry groups'❓

Also, why TF is the Group of 8 universities amongst them❓

This is bonkers. Absolutely bonkers.

What do you suppose happens when you start stripping people of the minimal support they get?

Hypothetically, let's say they're guilty. What then? You think they're going to be more lawful when they lose their accommodation?

You know, there two things to take away from the Trump-Mamdani meeting:

1) Engaging with your political opponents is how you make change
2) There's more to Trump than most of us give him credit for

Being willing to meet and listen is a prerequisite for this sort of thing. Credit to both.
