So my 76yo mum is trying to care for my dad with Alzheimer’s at home and the local Alzheimer’s day centre (available for a few hours once a week) has said they don’t want to take him anymore because he’s…..behaving like someone with Alzheimer’s? Like she’s alone with him for most of the week? 🤯

Sorry but I’m glad Demi Moore didn’t win for that stupid mess of a film. That is all.

And we’re all just watching it happen. Everyone seems to think it will take someone else’s job but not theirs.

i don't like how we've decided that "beauty" means "smearing expensive things all over your face" and not "staggering awe at the elegance of the natural world and gratitude for our precious and fleeting chance to experience it"

NEW: For the 3rd year in a row, Elon Musk’s foundation gave away less than it was supposed to. In 2023, it gave away $421 million less than the minimum required for a charity of its size, new filings show. www.nytimes.com/2024/12/12/u...
Musk’s Foundation Gave Away Less Money Than Required in 2023
Private foundations must donate 5 percent of their assets every year. Elon Musk’s enormous charity missed that standard for three consecutive years.

A great pet peeve of mine is when clothing companies refer to plastic garments as "vegan leather." Throwing a virtuous health halo around a petroleum product is wild. Next it'll be all-natural organic cyanide

This is what I needed today.

Just this.
Just a reminder, as you look outside and notice it's already getting dark 😱, that today is the earliest sunset of the year (15:51 in London). From tomorrow the sunsets slowwwwly start getting later again. (Sunrises don't start getting earlier until Dec 30th hence solstice on 21st.) YOU ARE WELCOME.

Can’t remember a more evocative film trailer in ages than the 28 Years Later one.
And such a brilliant poem by Kipling about the horror of war. ‘Boots’ is Just as relevant today as it was 111 years ago -maybe even more so given what we know now about it. Enjoy your Friday!

please read this thread about what a for-profit health ‘insurance’ system means in practice
Storytime.

In 2005, my mom died from cancer, but the real cause was the actions taken by an insurance company 12 years earlier. What happened to her was evil, hard to identify or fight, and hidden from the public by legal mechanisms. Because of that, I have no idea how often it has happened.

- STV is the ideal electoral system, not least for entertainment value
- there are crucial ideological differences between Irish Labour and the Social Democrats (maybe)
- Sherlock’s defeat of the Monk signals the end of global populism
- they should make a smaller spice bag
