Thinking about the sinking of the USS Johnston today in light of current events.

"Three 14 inch shells struck the Johnston in succession...Somehow, the Johnston remained afloat [and] stayed in the fight with only her two forward 4 inch guns...Soon enough, the Johnston succumbed."

An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

Final in Piscataway, New Jersey: Penn State 40, Rutgers 36.

Rutgers scored more points against the Paterno bastards than they ever have, and lost because of a 4th-quarter fumble.

They haven't beaten Penn State in 38 years.

If Greg Schiano can't win this game, then he needs to go.

hi new friends. you’re here because I openly posted about being suicidal, but on my better days I’m simply a Shakespeare professor at William & Mary. I would love it if you read some of my work on Ophelia’s pregnancy, the heart of my first book:

Admiral Erich Raeder was convicted and sentenced to life at Nuremberg for, among other things, giving orders to machine gun survivors in the water.

The advent of free worldwide publishing for all, and the ensuing need for publishers to outcompete all other publishers for attention, has turned public communication into an endless tournament to discover the most potent emotional payloads that can be embedded in media.

The winner: toxic nostalgia

When you have kids one day you just start talking like a dad. My kid slept in this morning and I greeted him with, "Glad to see you among the living!"

I've never used that phrase in my life. It just came out.

The #1 and 1a priorities of the incoming Sherrill administration should be permitting reform to speed the construction of new housing and fixing New Jersey Transit.

I honestly believe our most powerful position in a toxic time that feeds on cynicism, apathy,& despair is to genuinely care and act for a better world.

Cynicism is our enemy. We should check it, incl. on the left. It’s not intellectually superior. It’s the virus they’re trying to infect us with. NO

Imagine being a kid in December 1978, it's a few days before Christmas, you just got out on break, and your parents are taking you to see Superman! You nestle into your seat, the theater goes dark, and then you see these opening titles. It must have been incredible.

Incredible win for Princeton over Rutgers in an awesome atmosphere. Caden Pierce was the star with 21 and 14 including the game-winning back down bucket. Tigers profile as another scary team if they can get back in the tournament.

I literally want to die. I'm so sick of this garbage.
FINAL: Princeton 83, Rutgers 82.

Ace Bailey hit a 3 for the lead but Caden Pierce scores the game-winner! Rutgers no good at the buzzer. Incredible game.

We beat Penn State AND Seton Hall this week? I don't care about margins, that's as good a week as a Rutgers fan can have.
