Kevin Willard has not lost in the Prudential Center since leaving Seton Hall. His Maryland team beat Villanova here, and now the Wildcats get the better of the Pirates tonight, 64-56, in a game that was not as close as the final score lets on. #NovaNation

They’re going down the stretch in Newark, and Villanova — in addition to making 10 of 21 from beyond the arc — has authored its best defensive effort of the year. Really not much anyone can do against that.

The Wildcats go to the final 3:33 ahead, 64-46. #NovaNation

Seton Hall is trying to use the press to come back. Villanova was up 20 not too long ago, and still leads by 16, at 57-41, after a Willard timeout with 8:15 still remaining. The catalyst for the Pirates in this last stretch: Josh Rivera.

Why can’t Fordham get guys like that?

Villanova has outscored Seton Hall by a 19-6 margin since halftime, and is starting to hit threes the way it did against Queens and Sacred Heart last month. That’s hard for anyone to come back from.

At the U12, with 11:55 on the clock, it’s the Wildcats 50, Seton Hall 33.

Trey Parker just stopped the bleeding for Seton Hall, ending a 16-0 Villanova run. #shbb #HALLin

That’s 11 straight for Villanova, and Seton Hall looks disjointed as the Wildcats are working it inside to Brennan and Hodge efficiently.

At the U16, it’s 42-29 and the Pirates are in their deepest hole of the night at the 15:10 mark. #shbb #HALLin

Villanova is on a 7-0 run after Seton Hall pulled within two, and Sha wants a 30. It becomes the floater with 17:28 to play and the Pirates trailing, 38-29.

Not only did Sha speak to his team, he worked Gaffney for at least a good 30 seconds before going into the huddle.

Gaffney with another one against Seton Hall, for those of you scoring at home. #shbb #HALLin

One of the reasons the Pirates were able to stay close also was guys winning their 1-on-1 battles on drives to the basket. Either they'll need to keep doing that or they'll need Clark to stay on the floor to stay attached. Nova can really spread you out and shoot. #shbb #HALLin

Balanced scoring as usual for the Pirates. Williams the high man with seven, Simpkins with six. That half contained some good (9 pts off 9 forced turnovers, 6 2nd chance pts off 8 oREB) and some not-so-good (six threes for Nova, 2 each for Hodge and Lindsay). #shbb #HALLin

Seton Hall contested Perkins’ three at the horn beautifully. Down four with Clark and Staton-McCray on the bench most of the half with two fouls each is a good place to be if you’re a Pirate fan.

After 20: Villanova 31, The Hall 27. #shbb #HALLin

Villanova is back up four after Seton Hall pulled even, reopening a 25-21 cushion with 3:47 left before halftime. The Pirate frontcourt has done a job on Brennan, and forced Devin Askew into three fouls. The 32 percent shooting, though? That needs to pick up. #shbb #HALLin

Find something you love as much as Matt Hodge loves hitting threes in the right corner. If I had more time and Synergy access, I’d break down the stats on that particular shot. It’s a thing of beauty every time and it feels like he’s hitting it at about a 70 percent clip.

Villanova is still up two with 11:54 remaining in the opening stanza, 12-10. Seton Hall turned it into more of a rock fight when Budd picked up his second foul…he came back in about a minute before the U12. #shbb #HALLin #NovaNation

Villanova has a 9-5 lead through the first 4:25, and Lindsay has a left arc triple that would have hit from Maplewood. The Wildcats have knocked down two of five from distance as Lewis has a half-dozen and three boards in the early going. #NovaNation

So it was Williams on the three after all.
December 24, 2025 at 12:08 AM
It was Staton-McCray on the three. McLoone botched that one. And Lewis just got a four-point play in the Estwick corner after Clark committed the cardinal sin. #shbb #HALLin
Off and running in Newark, and Mike Williams broke the seal in about 15 seconds with a three. Seton Hall is going to need the outside shot against a Villanova team that is unbeatable when it gets going from distance. The powder blues for the Wildcats are a thing of beauty.

Willard notably booed as he was introduced by Tim McLoone, or at least booed louder than he was cheered. #shbb #HALLin

Kevin Willard had a round of big hugs for everyone on the Seton Hall staff as he made his entrance.

In addition to Sha, he also had current Pirate assistant Ryan Whalen on staff as his DOBO in the early years. #shbb #HALLin

Usual starters for both sides:

Villanova — Acaden Lewis, Bryce Lindsay, Tyler Perkins, Matt Hodge and Duke Brennan.

Seton Hall — Budd Clark, Mike Williams, A.J. Staton-McCray, Elijah Fisher and Stephon Payne.

ZEBRA ALERT — Tonight’s officials for Seton Hall/Villanova: John Gaffney, The Notorious BOC, Brian O’Connell, and Ron Groover.

Festivus begins with the airing of grievances. Pirate and Wildcat fans might have a lot of problems with these people. #shbb #HALLin #NovaNation

The second of two straight homecomings is the last appetizer before the holidays.

Game #39, where Seton Hall entertains Kevin Willard for the first time since he left, as Villanova comes to Newark.

The feats of strength begin at 7:00. #shbb #HALLin #NovaNation
