I had a housemate at uni who came back from the summer holiday to tell us they'd been mugged in Vatican City and a nun had helped her and taken her to an audience with the Pope, which she'd left because it was boring.
In the early 90s I shared a hotel elevator with Emilio Estevez and I got out on my floor not having exchanged a single word with him
Please quote this from the time you didn't interact with someone famous.

I was visiting with family in New Bedford, Massachusetts, at the same time that Mother Theresa was there visiting her Missionaries of Charity. The bishop held a Mass for her at the church where I was baptized. I didn't go.

to put a random number to it, the lib dem & green combined vote share is about the same as reform, yet that's never the "public opinion" politicians chase

Two joys to listening to @500songspodcast.bsky.social:

1. Discovering that people called things like Steadfast Starfucker were performing under their birth names;
2. Hearing Andrew unerringly play the bit of the song that's the famous sample, and waiting to see if he'll acknowledge it or not.

I've got the day off work, so time to bring back an old favourite, this time using lessons learned from all the great stuff we published in 2025. Let's do this.

Without a doubt, it's As A Kang Should Be from @obversebooks.co.uk: I've had a busy year this year, but this one felt like lots of things came together to make this a fun book to write that was perfectly in my wheelhouse but also needed to exist in this moment. obversebooks.co.uk/product/para...

I was in a McDonald's and a child nearby was misbehaving. His mother admonished him to "remember who's watching", meaning his younger sibling. He glanced round, saw me (a random adult) looking vaguely in his direction and looked absolutely terrified.

I once sold someone a printer in PC World because I was in my Tesco uniform and they insisted I should help them even if I wasn’t “on shift”, and it felt easier to ‘help’ them than argue.

As always, ALWAYS, with AI: you will not get the true picture of adoption until it's being charged at its true cost.
In 2025, AI became pervasive in American life and the economy, with ChatGPT surging in adoption much faster than any other major technology in memory. @nytopinion.nytimes.com

Melvyn Bragg asked me if I'd met Sue Townsend.
I sat next to Melvyn Bragg at Mass once and was entirely oblivious until someone told me afterwards. (Not really a massive celebrity but the best I can do….)

Just watched the new Knives Out and I think it's really important you know that the scene in the Seminary's Gym is filmed in the same place Rick Astley filmed the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up.

I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.

The gamification of politics is one of my least favourite things about living in the UK, and to my mind is exactly why people feel justified in disengaging or supporting candidates they wouldn't want running their bath let alone their country. Sorry if you're just here for the TV reviews though.
