Since I get challenged on this a lot: U.S. and Japan are both Berne Convention signatories, meaning the copyright is recognized between countries. They CAN go after American companies. And they are. And I love it.

The lady at the charity shop today told me that she wishes people would clear out their children's old toys in the lead up to Christmas rather than after because she always sees a number of parents in the days before Christmas looking for toys for their little ones who might be strapped for cash. She said there's very rarely anything in just before, but that they get inundated with toys in the days after. And it really made me think about it in a way I never would have before. If you know your child is going to get lots of presents from father Christmas this year, by clearing out your cupboards a few days early you could make another child's Christmas a lot more special too. Saw this & thought I'd repost

Nearly time to head north for PictCon 1. I'm also still on my journey through #ScottishSFF. Margaret Elphinstone's The Incomer (1987) is a very rich and rewarding account of a post-collapse rural matrilineal society, founded on principles of nonviolence but nonetheless still subject to change.

You don't have to share your writing unless you want to. You don't need to talk to anyone about your writing unless you want to. You don't need to seek publication unless you want to. You can get 99% of the benefits of writing without doing any of those things.

Well it's not every day that you get to stand on the site of a brand new Observatory! This is Clatteringshaws loch, in the Galloway Forest #DarkSky Park, home of the 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿Scottish Dark Sky Observatory. Construction starts soon and like a phoenix SDSO will rise from the ashes! Re-opening mid-2027. 🥳🔭🧪
It's a dreich cloudy Autumnal day, but Catherine is nevertheless smiling in front of a very scenic loch with mountains in the distance. This patch of grass is about to have two observatory domes built on it. An old white stone brick single story building that will become the Scottish Dark Sky Observatory visitors centre. The trees in the distance have red autumn leaves on them. In the scrub a sign reads Welcome to The Scottish Dark Sky Observatory, and then below that a rather unwelcome "Private Land" :)

#OnThisDay Robert Fergusson died at the age of 24 in Edinburgh. A life-size, street-level statue of the Fergusson can be found outside Canongate Kirkyard, where the poet is buried. His most famous work is “Auld Reekie” which presents a snapshot of life in Edinburgh in his time.
