“Anti-trans harassment and violence is all the rage. Trans people are afraid to leave the country, let alone leave their houses. The right-wing ecosystem has gladly spent years creating these conditions, while Democrats have by turns avoided saying anything about them at all” 😞

“I think that as we get distracted by what’s coming out of the White House, it will be easier for folks to miss things that are happening [... locally]. We really need folks to know what’s going on in their own communities. If you see something that you don’t like, speak up, fight back.”
With Republican legislators continuing to pass regressive, anti-LGBTQ+ laws that make the state an increasingly hostile place for queer youth, the work being done by Kaleidoscope Youth Center is more important than ever.

This better describes my previous institution than my current one, but I still see evidence of this around me every day.
“Many say that while they still love their work — and particularly working with students — they don’t know how long they can maintain their current pace. ‘Most of us are working seven days a week just to keep up… That’s not sustainable at all.’”

Nikki Giovanni staunchly supported trans folks, especially trans youth. Her encouragement is a balm.

“I think the transgender kids are the bravest kids right now that we see; they're as brave as my generation was in breaking down segregation.”

Elon Musk's harassment of random federal employees is alarming.

But it's also a sign of weakness. And a reminder that Timothy Snyder is right: don't obey in advance.

Obama's '08 campaign won the biggest margin of victory in the last 30+ years. Within hours of his inauguration, Republicans went to dinner and agreed to oppose him on every single item. Two years later, they won 63 House seats and 6 Senate seats.
So this the kind of Trump admin that progressives on the Hill and some leftists want to play clever game of footsie with around issues on anti trust and credit card fees?

I’m not trans so maybe it’s not my place to say but:

If I was the only Black woman surrounded by dozens of people targeting me for harassment/segregation, I’m pretty sure I would say what Sarah McBride did and then I would hope dozens of my colleagues would stand up for me anyway.

Tip for new BlueSky users: the "nuclear" block.

Blocking a user here is far more effective than it ever was on Twitter. It rips out all connection to replies, quotes, everything. They are erased from your life.

It's beautiful and I recommend using it generously.
