Thinking about delayed/uncertain gratification as a cognitive load problem instead of a general maturity problem explains a lot actually and it is also depressing as a guy who really wants people to put in the effort to pick insurance.
Inflation is also one of those things that has no apparent upside to most people. Oh sure, the sufficiently econ-brained among us know that our raises are in part due to inflation and it has a nice effect on the real cost of our loans. But most people don't know that or more importantly feel it.
Inflation uniquely taps into the psychic struggles of the Trump-susceptible (as you say, “relearning what’s what”).

Having now read the Administration's proposed compact with universities, I have two thoughts:
This is not the sort of system set up by an administration that ever expects a different party to be in power again.

As a Baltimore resident, anything that can let people understand just how evil Fox45 actually is, that's an unalloyed good thing.
I don’t think the average viewer of ABC shows really understands that there’s a Sinclair that decides what they can watch, and it’s in Sinclair’s interest for it to stay that way.

Electricity costs are going to be the biggest topic of the 2026 election I think. There’s going to be a big push to get democrats to complain about big utilities price gouging even though they’re largely regulated and we need them to build a ton. I’m begging just blame Trump please.
