Aside from denying them additional money, a major part of why things have gotten so much worse over the past year is the insistence on maintaining the illusion of normalcy. The point is to generate pressure and galvanize the public. Of course that will require some resilience and political skill
I'm still torn about this strategy, more so than any other shutdown battle so far. ICE already has record-high funding through 2028 bc of the OBBB, so I don't see any benefit in shutting down, eg, the TSA while ICE continues murdering Americans unabated.

It's particularly galling to call for ICE to wear body cams when Renee Good's murder literally recorded the whole thing on his phone. He was so confident in his impunity as part of that organization that he recorded and allowed for the release of footage of him shooting a woman at point blank.

The Insurrection Act is not "martial law." It doesn't displace civilian law, it doesn't suspend habeas corpus, it doesn't alter or suspend state and local government, and it doesn't make anything newly illegal. It allows using the military to enforce existing law, it doesn't change what the law is.

"ICE needs better training" is how Democrats are telegraphing they have no intention of getting rid of or even reducing the funding for ICE when they regain power and if you're not fighting them on this right now don't do the "Democrat's wouldn't have done this" crap a few years from now.
