In case you missed this Sunday's review, I cover a censored Australian documentary
This week's review covers THE GREAT STRIKE (1917), an Australian documentary of the important labor action that was screened exactly once and then pulled and censored. Only 15 minutes out of an hour runtime survive

The Great Strike (1917) A Silent Film Review
A strike in New South Wales was caught on film and turned into a feature-length documentary. These fragments are all that remained after the censors got through with it.

They should’ve made this movie “The Last Days of Laura Mars” and had Faye Dunaway as a photographer who does a lot of cocaine and takes sexy images of space zombies

Raimi giving out trade secrets like its nothing
Sam Raimi tells us how to make the perfect mixture for fake blood.

“A good thick mix of karo syrup, red food coloring, a little blue to give it that unaerated look, and a bit of coffee to make it dark... I don’t mean to brag but hello, I’m here, I know how to throw blood.”

And so to bed. Sleep well, gentle sentients. May your tomorrow be kind.

@driveinmob.com @culturalgutter.bsky.social I'd like to suggest for #driveinmob consideration, THE FOUNTAINHEAD 1949, a movie I consider both excruciating to endure and hilarious.
I stumbled on it many decades ago, my first exposure to anything Ayn Rand and wow... My main reactions follow [thread]

I know "Boomer" is now a loose synonym for "old" but so many Silent Generation folks like Wiseman were born into a world under threat of global fascism + have died facing the same thing.

We need much more grace when talking about age, experience, mortality + geopolitics for folks of this era
