Despite the chaos in the world, it’s been an amazing week helping lead the @nagtgeo.bsky.social Early Career Faculty in the #Geoscineces Workshop. So inspired by our newest cohort of faculty & the collective effort to eliminate the hidden curriculum required to succeed in the academy.

I have just heard the terrible news about about Wes Hildreth and Judy Fierstein. My heart goes out to their loved ones and all who’ve had a chance to know them over the years. I wish Judy a quick recovery ❤️

Shocked to learn this incredibly tragic news - we have lost one of the most influential volcano scientists of our times.

The US Geological Survey (in the Dept of the Interior) is the federal agency that runs our volcano observatories & monitors volcanoes in the US for imminent eruption. Their work is critical to protect lives & infrastructure when volcanoes awaken like this. 🌋
The closest active volcano to Anchorage — Mount Spurr — is now expected to erupt within the next few weeks.

Would be a great time to have a fully-staffed NOAA to help navigate the impacts of this likely disaster.

Let's debunk this whole "space is hard" mantra.

Looking at all NASA-led missions launched since 2000, only 4 out of ~60 missions experienced total failures.

Two of these were due to issues with the commercial launch vehicle, & two were spacecraft issues.

That is a *93% success rate.* (1/n)
