Split between taking short jobs that make me a little bit of spending cash but take all of my time, attempting to be an employee so I can play layoff roulette again, or saying f- it all and focus on making my own game.
At least all three options are staying in the industry.

Good Boy (2025) - what a great example of secondhand storytelling. It reminded me of a lot of silent protagonist games.

If anyone asks you to do this, don't. If it's not outright wage theft, it's snuggling right up next to it.
Just refused to do an unpaid test that was basically asking for me to design a whole game, and now i feel like neo at the end of the matrix

Interested in people's responses. Apparently I can't even exit properly. I went from corporate gamedev to freelance gamedev. 🙃
For those that left #gamedev to do something else:

What was the tipping point?
What did you go on to do?
Any other insights to share?

Reskeets welcome and appreciated!

The most true thing that has ever existed.
It's cool how when you try to search for the solution to a computer problem now you can pick from an AI summary, several out-of-date videos by a guy with a shitty mic, or some forum posts on the publisher's site dealing with an obsolete version of the software

When I turned 30 I had not yet written my first published book or my first published novel and did not know (or know of) some of the most important people in my life. I didn't know how much my life could still change, and did, after the age of 30. There is so much your life still yet to live.
Those who are 35+, what advice do you have for people just entering their 30s?

Honestly, same.
HUSBAND: what do you want for your birthday?

ME: nothing

HUSBAND: you must want SOMETHING

ME: no I want nothing. I want to hear nothing and do nothing and feel nothing. I want to be disconnected from the earthly constructs of space and time. I want nothing. And cake. Nothing and cake please.

Spouse: That's cute! Do you think a carpenter and a seamstress live there?
Me: Or it could be a taxidermist. 🤭

**And we're laying people off at the other 90% anyway. 🤡

Thinking about the boomer complaint that 'vacation homes have gotten too expensive', and how it would solve so many issues if the average person could actually afford to buy roof over their head, and a second temporary roof for all these RTO -> Layoff -> RTO employment cycles...
