Abolish ICE (and DHS). Billionaires are untenable and America has no kings. Librarian. Educator. Cat lady. She/her.
AOC gets people - including me - fired up. And she’s a fighter. She reflects the policy preferences of the actual base (way more than party leadership!) and communicates them without turning off independents or low-info voters (b/c she’s got killer political instincts). We’d be lucky if she runs!
from the perspective of someone who might want to be president, the best time to run for the white house is now, not later. so if AOC is thinking about it — if the white house is her ambition — then her best bet is to throw her hat in the ring
You Know What? Maybe the Time Is Right for an AOC Presidential Bid
She’s only 36, and there’s a good argument that she should run for Senate and bide her time. But she also could be a formidable White House candidate.

Fascinating chart with one outlier: Warren Buffett.

At the low end, giving 0.06% of one's wealth is equivalent to:

Net worth -> Lifetime Giving
50K->$30
100K->$60
500K->$300
$1M->$600

Most folks give far more by % in a *single year*.

I got married there! The full video is so sweet! I loved getting married there because it was so clearly accessible to all, and it was beautiful to be waiting with other people, each of us in our private happiness with our spouse but also happy for all the other couples. Just really lovely.
Everyone in the world comes to get married at the NYC Marriage Bureau. Last week, the Mayor stopped by to officiate a few of those ceremonies.

Thank you to all the couples who shared their joy with us. Happy Valentine's Day, New York.

easy slogan for the next democratic presidential candidate is “i will reform the corrupt supreme court and repeal citizens united”
“When Citizens United was decided in 2010, billionaires had spent $18 million on the 2000 election, $13M 2004 and $16M in 2008. Then came the deluge. In 2012 it was $231M, and nearly doubled again in next three election cycles —to $682M in 2016, $1.2 billion in 2020 and $2.6 billion in 2024.” Gift:

Behold: the first-ever list of news outlets that have banned generative AI in their reporting. As of today, this is literally information that you cannot find on Google.

My goal is to fill the starter pack, so please send over suggestions with supporting evidence!

Dell has been on this beat since the very beginning and points out a thing often missed: the cost to all of us for Amazon’s loss prevention strategy is a nationwide surveillance network.
Ring is first and foremost a scheme to charge Amazon customers to deter crime that costs Amazon (not the customers themselves) billions annually in refunds, returns, double shipping, and customer service overhead.

I'm increasingly of the opinion that tech in general needs an increased liability surface. expanded liability for what your algorithm pushes, expanded liability for what your model outputs. if you make the danger real the incentives align.
How would one design a regulatory environment that encourages the responsible use of AI? Is it as simple as a massive tax that funds a UBI? Or is it much more complex than that?

One of the most corrosive aspects of consumer identity just wholly swallowing politics for a ton of ppl is a belief that governance is this product that we receive passively rather than a process that we actively shape through ongoing participation

Notice how the popular media narrative has moved on, while people on the ground in Minneapolis are still struggling and crying out that things are as bad as ever. This is how fascist regimes operate — overreach, recalibration, normalization. Get louder, not quieter.

This is a framing error, NYT. It's different technologies. Chatbots are not the same as the machine learning involved in reading scans (better defined inputs, clearer evaluation of outputs). Calling both AI is like conflating bombs dropped from planes with cars, because they both involve explosions.

I *wanted* it to be him, because the little boy onstage was happy and healthy. Part of me knew it was impossible, but it’s also so painful to grapple with the reality that my country traumatized this child, and so many other people, and continues to, because people in charge are racist and cruel.
Super Bowl viewers Sunday speculated that 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos appeared in the halftime show. In fact, he has been in hiding with his family.

“He can’t sleep well at night. He wakes up three or four times a night screaming, ‘Daddy, Daddy,’” Liam's father Adrian Conejo Arias, said.

They're building concentration camps with my tax money Chuck. They're torturing children. They're murdering innocent people on the street. What are you doing.
Our DHS reform demands are exceedingly reasonable.

We're asking ICE to do nothing more than follow the standards that the vast majority of law enforcement agencies already follow.

Republicans, the ball is in your court. The clock is ticking.

What this ad doesn’t show: Ring also rolled out facial recognition for humans. I wrote to them months ago about this. Their answer? They won’t ask for your consent.

This definitely isn’t about dogs—it’s about mass surveillance.

This is torture. The US is torturing children. Children whose words and whose art contain infinitely more humanity than the people keeping them detained.

She must immediately be sent back to the maximum security prison where she belongs.
