"[...] the surplus will likely be created for high-income households and large, foreign-owned companies benefiting from defence spending—they are on the other side of this deficit."
It feels like we're definitely entering a phase where more and more liberals are starting to notice that the predictions of political behaviour that turn out to be right are the increasingly visible far left-wing ones.
“We are at a moment right now where people are asking themselves why can’t the Democratic Party defend this assault on democracy . . . and I would submit to you that if you can’t draw the line at genocide, you probably can’t draw the line at democracy.”

This is an underappreciated part of housing. New builds are built for investors, not people. Buyers of new condos have lost money. Building more supply isn't worth shit if it's miserable to live in. Among the reasons why well-designed public co-op homes are a better solution. #canadapoli
‘A literal shoe box’: Why some Toronto renters are avoiding new builds | CBC News
Some Torontonians are opting out of moving into new builds — for reasons ranging from a lack of rent control to poor layouts — at a time tenants are increasingly gaining leverage in the market.

There are too many times where I am painfully reminded that someone being trans or queer does not automatically mean that we're politically aligned.

Even if this countersurge of electoralism fails and we get to see anti-reform theory in action, it has been a hell of a time to see people stand by the need for radical leftward change in the heart of empire and around the world.

One of the most unintentionally hilarious, unhinged moments I've ever listened to at 8:07 is this Maple MAGA farmer flipping from sobbing over the culling of her farm's ostriches to self-promotional excited babbling about how they produced ostrich meat and the magical effects of ostrich oil. Unreal.

I could watch cisgender politicians eviscerate transphobic gotcha bullshit like this with such clear, focused responses all day. Case in point that the unwavering truth is the best response. Every time.
Great to see @zackpolanski.bsky.social on @skynewsrss.bsky.social this morning standing up for trans people.

It’s clear that Trevor Phillips was trying to trap Zack by not giving him all the facts! Martine Croxall not only eye rolled, she changed a direct quote - unethical for a journalist!

This is the crux of it and it makes even more sense when you connect it to the resurgent labour movement under COVID. They've been trying to destroy labour power ever since and have tried to such an irrational extent that it's reshaped the global economy into one giant AI bubble.
If you're wondering why capital keeps burning cash on such a worthless asset it's because its promised them the ability to fire their entire workforce and even though it can't deliver it yet the allure is too strong to stop now
ICYMI: Microsoft’s charge “implies a more than $12 billion quarterly loss at OpenAI, said Firoz Valliji, an analyst at Bernstein.”

That “would mark one of the largest single-quarter losses for a tech company in history.”

James Watson the perverted racist is dead?! Well that means it's time to celebrate the true hero of DNA discovery: Rosalind Franklin

What Rosalind Franklin truly contributed to the discovery of DNA’s structure
Franklin was no victim in how the DNA double helix was solved. An overlooked letter and an unpublished news article, both written in 1953, reveal that she was an equal player.

This whole case is ridiculous and I hope their constitutional challenge wins. They had public relationships with the police, Health Canada, and peer reviewed research. A conviction is unjust.

This moment says everything about why Zohran Mamdani won.

A journalist in a wheelchair asked about accessibility and Mamdani didn’t talk down to him, didn’t deflect, didn’t politicize it. He listened.

He’s the kind of leader who respects everyone, every faith, every class, every flag.

I'm laughing because if there's anything to get past my withered scepticism of Avi Lewis and then turn it into cautious optimism, it's that the National Post has already written a hit piece on him. Ringing endorsement, that.

Cities are cool. Diversity is fun. Brown people are people. Trans people are people. Socialism is good. We don't have to tolerate genocide or fascism. Young people have good ideas. We can take care of each other. A better world is possible.
People are, generally, good. Including you.
It shouldn’t be forgotten that a big piece of Mamdani’s campaign was simply “cities are cool and lots of people enjoy living in them” which in and of itself dismantles alot of rightwing talking points

The truly maddening thing is that, unlike when I was a young man in science and the materials and engineering just weren’t there yet, the future is *right there.* The problem is *solved*. What’s holding us back is not just greed, but this bizarre nostalgia, an obsession with petro- masculinity.
