Well this is not a nice start to my week. Someone reported to me that a kickstarter uses my pictures and it’s really sickening because they’re ALL mine with FREAKING AI bg. I already filed a copyright claim but it makes me sick.

Using ai for reference is one way to legitimise it but also will make you worse in time. If you care about the art you make you should care about what influences it and where your ideas come from. The world is massive with tens of thousands of years of art and culture and history you can learn about

Jim Musil on Reddit: "I've never hidden the fact that I use AI as a part of building my references, but I don't copy them verbatim. The process I use is the same I would use if painting from a photo. I feel it's the same amount of work to paint from photos as it is to paint from a digital mock up or AI."

I have thousands of photos. Trace them. Mash them together like Frankenstein. Collage. Experiment with mixed media. This is why I make and share stock photos for artists. You can learn from what's REAL and make it YOUR OWN instead of having something done for you that isn't your own vision.

Had a lot of fun this weekend at Fig Twig, a big holiday craft fair extravaganza here in Humboldt County in NorCal. Had to pull off a 8x10’ inward-facing indoor corner booth for the first time ever, but got it done!!

Whew! Now it’s time to crash.
