I may be hyper-sensitive to feckless callousness right now, but the child/pre-teen protagonist pulls my empathy-strings hard. He goes through a lot, completely out of his control.

Hobb is a *great* storyteller, and I’m sucked in **completely**, but I’m bruised. I hope there’s a point.
