Here it is, everyone's favorite beetle. A Common Eastern Firefly getting ready for tonight's match-making light show. One giveaway for fireflies aka lightning bugs is that they have large eyes to see the flashes of potential mates. #inverts

Eastern meadowlark in watercolor. Kyle and I went on a birding trip in Blackwater Falls and Canaan Valley a few weeks ago. Seeing this guy sing while perched on a fence post is one of my favorite moments from that trip.

Early morning visitors. I’ve had eastern bluebirds eyeing my nest box for months. Of course they are interested in it now that the house wrens have already built their nest. Still, it made my day to see the bluebirds return with some of their young.

A pair of house wrens have been hard at work building a nest in my bluebird nest box. I’ve enjoyed watching their many attempts to get longer sticks inside the nest box. For the most part, they’re successful!
