Conversion therapies, also known as conversion practices, are efforts to change a person's sexual orientation or gender identity. These practices are not just harmful, they do the opposite of what they claim.

It struck me a lot when I was watching 'Pray Away' on Netflix, about former gay members of an anti-gay rights, conversion therapy movement. I vacillated between feeling sympathy for them at how their self-hatred was used against them, and, also, thinking they should be in prison.

We see that encouraging people to hate others because of their differences results in people hating others and then acting upon that hate. We see people create Conversion Therapy camps where children are beaten starved and are driven to suicide. We see rights get striped away.

So-called “conversion therapy” is not legitimate healthcare. Since 2017, Nevada has prohibited conversion therapy for minors. While state protections will remain regardless of the outcome of Chiles v. Salazar, we are committed to a future where conversion therapy is fully eradicated.
