The cruelty in today's politics feels horribly corrosive. Bringing up that hard-working immigrant families — undocumented, yes, but not violent criminals — are being ripped apart based on immigration status doesn't bring compassion or even pause, but gleeful cheers.

In my opinion, Trump's shift on this issue ("stop raiding farms and hotels") demonstrates the US needs to have an honest conversation about the role of undocumented immigrants in this country. And who constitutes this population. I'm afraid the rhetoric has already poisoned the well.
SCOOP: The Trump admin has abruptly shifted the focus of its mass deportation campaign, telling ICE officials to largely pause raids and arrests in the agricultural industry, hotels and restaurants, according to an internal email and three officials with knowledge.

We’re only two months in, & they’re cancelling research into pediatric brain cancer. They’re deporting US kids with brain cancer. They’re putting millions at risk of malaria, TB, & polio.

I for one will never forgive or forget those who said ‘it won’t be that bad’.

There's something grimly ironic about Trump, whose criminal guilt was quite clear based on public information, managing to land in the White House rather than a prison cell thanks to dragging out Due Process, now handwaving process away and assuming the right to brand criminals by fiat.

Reminder that the USA is co-hosting the World Cup next year with two countries it has been actively hostile towards, which will involve hundreds of thousands of visitors coming into the country and crossing the borders with Canada and Mexico during the event.
International travelers concerned about President Donald Trump’s trade policies and bellicose rhetoric have been canceling trips to the United States, depriving the U.S. tourism industry of billions of dollars at a time when the economy has started to appear wobbly.

You're never delighted after dropped points but I thought Liverpool were genuinely brilliant in that second half and deserved more. In the end, you take a good point, a tough away game out of the way, and a still-healthy lead at the top.

one thing I'd encourage folks to remember is that today's political landscape may be full of "let's buy Greenland" but in 6-12 months time it's more likely to be "we're in a housing crisis" (www.housingwire.com/articles/mor...)

this 6th circuit ruling killing net neutrality reads like a Verizon press release.

U.S. net neutrality rules were very modest, never actually enforced by a broadly feckless FCC, and are popular across a bipartisan majority of Americans, yet the court declares them "heavy handed"

Not a huge believer in tipping points, but there was about a one-month period when everyone seemed truly appalled and we could have collectively agreed to ensure something like this would not happen again.
To the very end, I will never understand how January 6th, 2021, wasn’t a dealbreaker.

The greatest failure of the modern Democratic Party is the apparent belief that basic elements of politics -- selling your policies to voters and reminding them what you did for them -- is somehow tacky and beneath them.
It is hard to understate how silent Democrats went after Biden won. The right filled the vacuum with bullshit and aside from an obscure message or two from the White House, the GOP dominated. It didn’t have to be but Democrats don’t believe in comms. That’s a big reason we are here.
