Arne Slot on the possibility of missing out on the Champions League: "When I arrived here, we could only sign Federico Chiesa after a Europa League season. I'm completely aware of that."
February 10, 2026 at 10:50 AM
Joe Gomez expected to return to training today.

The word from Liverpool is that Arne Slot is safe, but I don't really buy the idea he can afford endless poor performances and bad results until the end of the season. Today was both, in my opinion.

Liverpool have lost to worse teams this season, but this was a truly dreadful day. You could see City's flaws during that 35-minute spell in the second half, but if you're only capable of playing well for that long with Anfield behind you, then you're not going to get fourth.

Liverpool to face Manchester City: Alisson, Szoboszlai, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez, Mac Allister, Gravenberch, Wirtz, Salah, Ekitike, Gakpo.

Subs: Mamardashvili, Woodman, Endo, Chiesa, Jones, Robertson, Nyoni, Ramsay, Ngumoha.

Liverpool hopeful Joe Gomez will train Saturday and be part of the squad to face Manchester City. Jeremie Frimpong still ruled out.

A few short years ago, Liverpool would've considered Jeremy Jacquet far too inexperienced to sign at that price. So what has led to this shift in transfer policy? And how are expectations being adjusted as a result?

Jacquet the embodiment of Liverpool's altered transfer approach
The Reds have struck a £60m deal for the 20-year-old that, a few short years ago, would have been considered out of character.

Liverpool confirm they have struck an agreement to sign Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet on July 1, 2026. The Frenchman will arrive in a deal worth £60m and sign a five year contract with the option of a further year.
February 2, 2026 at 10:30 PM
Jeremy Jacquet is set to land in the U.K. in next few minutes to complete the formalities of his £60m move from Rennes to Liverpool.

Liverpool and Rennes have agreed a £55m +£5m deal for defender Jeremy Jacquet to move to Anfield in the summer.

Dominik Szoboszlai has insisted his future is "not in my hands" amid ongoing contract talks with Liverpool, adding: "I like the city, I like the club, I like playing with these guys, I love Anfield, I love the fans, let’s see what the future holds. It is not on me."

Lutsharel Gertruida is one of the options Liverpool are considering as they chase defensive reinforcements before the end of the transfer window. The Dutchman is currently on loan at Sunderland, which I’m told makes the move slightly complicated.

A superb show of fight and quality from Liverpool tonight to come through a difficult first half-hour and then produce that performance. They were outstanding to a man, but a word for Ibrahima Konate, who was flawless on his first game back since the passing of his father.

Liverpool to face Newcastle: Alisson, Szoboszlai, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez, Mac Allister, Gravenberch, Wirtz, Salah, Ekitike, Gakpo.

Subs: Mamardashvili, Endo, Chiesa, Jones, Robertson, Nyoni, Ramsay, Nallo, Ngumoha.

Curtis Jones is available to face Newcastle; Joe Gomez ruled out but isn't far away.
January 30, 2026 at 9:12 AM
Jeremie Frimpong set to be out for "a few weeks", Arne Slot says, but not as bad as Liverpool feared. Ibrahima Konate is back in training and available to face Newcastle.
January 30, 2026 at 9:09 AM
Arne Slot is absolutely right to push back on the constant bad-faith twisting of his words that is rampant on social media of late. But that doesn't mean he couldn't also help himself in press conferences - not mentioning PSG so often would be a start.

Slot is right to push back on social media jibes, but he is too honest
Arne Slot has earned the right to remind everyone of the significance of his achievements at Liverpool, but a war with fans will help nobody.

The Champions League is like a different sport to the Premier League this season, and Liverpool are much better at the former. Could they go deep in the competition as a result?

You can say it's only Qarabag (and they drew with Chelsea this season, by the way), but how many times have Liverpool so convincingly dispatched an opponent this season? A fantastic performance and result to take them straight through to the Champions League knockouts.
January 28, 2026 at 9:51 PM
Liverpool to Qarabag: Alisson, Frimpong, Gravenberch, Van Dijk, Robertson, Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Wirtz, Salah, Ekitike, Gakpo.

Subs: Mamardashvili, Woodman, Endo, Kerkez, Chiesa, Nyoni, Nallo, Morrison, Ngumoha.

Liverpool may have seen a 13-match unbeaten run end tonight, but they've won five of their last 18 Premier League games and sit 12th in the form table over that time. Really bad, and for a sustained period.

Liverpool got everything they deserved for another utterly abject performance tonight. Bournemouth had won one in 14 prior to this, but they were up against a side that has been in bottom-half form since September. This squad is flawed, but should they be this bad? Not a chance.
January 24, 2026 at 7:26 PM
Arne Slot asked if he believes Liverpool will end the January window without new additions: "That's what I expect, yeah."
January 23, 2026 at 10:16 AM
It can't have been easy for Arne Slot to stick with Milos Kerkez when both men were under pressure earlier this season. But the Dutchman is being rewarded with performances that make you wonder why there was such an eagerness to write his left-back off.

Kerkez has silenced his doubters after Slot's brave selection call
Despite early noise around his summer signing, Arne Slot stuck to his guns and is now reaping the rewards.

A summer that saw Liverpool swap Diaz for Wirtz, sign two strikers, and add Kerkez and Frimpong's profiles seemed aimed at a move away from wingers to a narrow midfield with flying full-backs. Is it any coincidence they look best in this setup?
