My first Stu’s Slapshots notebook of the season, including a look at Lane Hutson’s contract situation, Habs being youngest team in NHL, Arber Xhekaj’s new diet and Noah Dobson adjusting to life in Montreal:
Stu's Slapshots: Paying Canadiens' Lane Hutson less than $10 million makes sense
No team with a player making more than $10 million a year has ever won the Stanley Cup, but that will likely change with the rising salary cap.

Mr. President, you love playing the schoolyard bully but, at age 79, it’s time to cut it out. It’s one thing to steal one kid’s lunch money, but your bill STEALS LUNCH MONEY FROM MILLIONS OF KIDS. Now, that’s real ugly.

Gary Bettman finally makes it official, announcing #Habs have acquired defenceman Noah Dobson from the N.Y. Islanders in exchange for the 16th and 17th picks at NHL Draft and forward Emil Heineman - just in case there's anyone out there who didn't already know.

This bear at Sophia Bulgaria Zoo needs to be transferred to a bear sanctuary: do I have anyone who take up this call to action & advocate on behalf of this bear who has no voice in the human world?

Now that Trudeau is gone, can we dispense with Rosie Barton? Her job is done. Not well, but she’s done.

I hope all those Canadians who believed the garbage Pierre PoLIEvre spouted about our Prime Minister Justin Trudeau are now eating their shirts. He has made us so proud.

We’ve a call to action!

In a blue state? Contact your State’s AG :: I called mine

I’ll tag mine here @newjerseyoag.bsky.social

Here’s a starter pack listing their @ here

to enforce criminal penalties against Elon under state law where possible. The president can't pardon state charges, the DOJ AG can't interfere in them either, and this un-elected billionaire from Africa needs to be in cuffs. Tag, call, email, DM your state AGs and governors!

Ian from Canada: we’re imposing a $1/letter fee on every Trump word count that directly crosses our border. And we developed the analytics to track it. Keep Trump out of our mind-space, head-space and soul-space. —Lovingly, from a Canadian word-border guardian and former American admirer.

I understand. But the statute of limitations under Title 18 is generally five years. We need to start cataloguing this stuff.
Ok but who has standing to do anything about it

Wait—you mean Donald Trump can’t change the laws of physics with his Sharpie?
A Flag on Mars? Maybe Not So Soon. Orbital dynamics show that President Trump’s pledge to land astronauts on Mars couldn’t happen until 2029 at the earliest. And even that would be challenging. (NYT Jonathan Corum) www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

What is wrong with
American democrats, achievers and dreamers and builders and their network of supporters that you allow your democracy to be trampled — in less than a week — without response or protest or the creation of a new free speech media outlet? What is wrong with the American spirit?
