I’m a suicide attempt survivor. I’ve spent the last 15 years fighting to protect veterans.

Trump and Musk are pushing policies that will kill veterans—by design.

This is personal. And it's a warning.

Veterans Will Die If Trump and Musk Get Their Way

The most Democrat consultant-brained piece of this was making it a procedural fight about ACA subsidies — that, if extended for a year, would help the GOP in the 2026 midterms anyway — instead of making it stand against Trump’s lawlessness and corruption.

But that would require believing in things.
Major concession from Democrats here is enhanced ACA funds aren’t extended. Preserving them was Dems’ central demand in this fight. They secured a promise of a vote (which Thune has been offering for weeks), but that could still fail. Even if it passes, Johnson has made no promise of a House vote.
Tentative Senate deal to end shutdown, multiple sources tell me & @frankthorp.bsky.social:

—CR through Jan 30
—Approps minibus
—Fully funds SNAP
—Reverses Trump’s shutdown RIFs
—Promise of Senate vote on ACA subsidies by Dec second week (details/outcome uncertain)
—Led by King/Shaheen/Hassan

The original Dem demands were:
1) Permanent ACA subsidies
2) Medicaid funding restored
3) No more blank checks for the regime (rescission)

They dropped Medicaid immediately. Went silent on rescission. Cut back to 1 year of subsidies on Friday. And surrendered today.

The Senate Democrats!

I particularly hate the suggestion there's some sort of grand bargain in which trans rights are given up in exchange for _______.

No one is offering such a thing. No one would change their vote to Dems after that. The argument exists solely to justify throwing trans people under the bus.
the harris campaign said the “they/them” ad didn’t sway the election.

one of the trump campaign’s top strategists this week said trans rights isn’t in the top five issues for swing voters.

when will the press stop talking about us like we’re a liability and start looking itself in the mirror

The coordinated nature of this—none are facing voters in 2026—means that either Schumer approved it or failed in his job as Senate Majority Leader to stop it.

Dems voting "no" get zero credit until they demand a change in leadership. Schumer out as Leader, Durbin out as Whip.
so currently defectors are:

Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)
CCM (2028)
Rosen (2030)
King (2030)

The model of holding individual senators responsible is broken here. The retirees clearly agreed to take the fall. Which is why the nos should get no credit for voting no unless they move to oust Schumer

People were donating to food banks in communities across the country. Many SNAP recipients who were struggling felt the momentum. They too need healthcare & many didn't want us to cave. 7M of us didn't march to cave. We didn't win every election last week to cave. Shame on the cavers. Vote them out.

So the Senate Democratic traitors' message tonight is "The Republicans own this now!" Um, the Republicans ALWAYS OWNED THIS! And judging by last week's election, voters clearly know it! I am just so angry at how out of touch our leadership is. Hiding behind retiring senators.

SHUTDOWN TAKEAWAY: send home as many federal employees as you want, cut off people's food stamps, let health care system career towards a cliff, but don't mess with air travel, especially with holidays looming.

Oh they’ll fight for you until Chuck no longer feels like it?

We spent months working to rebuild the Democratic brand in the eyes of young voters who wanted leaders who'd fight for them.

Senate Democrats just lit all that work on fire.

Four of Mike Johnson's top priorities are:
1. Helping the super-rich get super-richer
2. Blocking the swearing-in of a duly elected Democrat
3. Denying food to the poor
4. Covering up for sex predators who rape children.
I guess there's no time left in his day to help everyday Americans.
