When I came to Borneo last year and saw that the Asian glossy starling could be seen there I knew that this was a photo I wanted to take! The red eyes on these guys are just stunning!

Photo taken in the garden back in February 2023 ~ it was perched with the garden feeders in front of it in the pouring rain, but no birds ventured anywhere near the feeders. A male sparrowhawk is a small, slender bird of prey known for its speed and agility, often seen hunting in gardens. Small, compact, and slender, smaller than the female sparrowhawk. They have a long, thin tail and broad, short wings. Back & wings - Slate-grey or bluish-grey. Chest/Belly: Distinctive orange-brown or salmon-pink horizontal stripes (barring). Face: Orange-pink flush. Key Features: Bright yellow to deep amber-orange eyes and long, thin yellow legs. Flight/Behaviour: Known for a "flap-flap-glide" motion—a few rapid wingbeats followed by a short glide. They are adept at moving through trees and dense hedges. Comparison: The male is significantly smaller than the female, who is brown-backed and much larger.

For today's #brownisbeautiful #birdoftheday, a chimango caracara seen in the Bariloche area of Argentina. Pretty chest feathers. This predator was soon bullied off its perch by the bigger predator, a crested caracara. #birds #nature #photography
A male(?) chimango caracara at rest on a branch of a dead tree, atop Cerro Llao Llao (near Bariloche, Argentina). The bird is looking to its left placing the head in profile, while the light-brown mottled, delicately feathered chest is seen from the front. Sunlight illuminates the left side of the bird, whilst also seem to catch the tip of the down-curved beak.
