A grey day in the park yesterday was brightened when a passerby mentioned he had seen an owl a few hundred yards in the direction we were headed and we found it! #birds #photography #birdphotography #Raptors #owl 🦉

As you can see, this isn’t last week, or the week before. This is 1968 Minnesota, where snowstorms are the norm.

This story started out as a memory of snow. It turned out to be, as so much of my life was, about two sisters.

Never seen Com. Merganser courtship display before, but I presume that's what this was about. There were some females nearby and these two males were making low noises and periodically thrusting their heads straight up and pointing their beak at the heavens. 😀 #BirdingHungary #ducks #waterfowl

♀️ Common Pochard (Aythya ferina). Although it has a huge range, this species is listed as vulnerable because of sharp population declines. And the population is 60 - 80% male. Nobody really knows why the females are disappearing faster then the males. #BirdingHungary #ducks #waterfowl
