Today is my book birthday! This book on California amphibians was utter joy to work on from start to finish. I hope it is half as much fun to read as it was to write.
Tonight I have my Amphibian Book Launch Party at a local brewery www.facebook.com/events/16251... ...

Amazing video from @techconnectify.bsky.social on the economics of our green energy revolution.

The best part is post-credits: his incredibly clear view of fascism in the US and those responsible.

Consider whether you really need that app on your phone. You probably don’t! Third party apps leak a ton of data and we know people get tracked that way. If you don’t need it, delete it

For the apps you do need, go through their privacy settings & turn location services to never or only when using

The Geneva Convention disintegrated. The Founding Fathers wept. Somewhere, a federal HR manager clutched their chest and whispered, “No. Not like this.”"

The news about people losing their eyes to less lethal rounds is a good time to remind people to buy goggles if you are going to a protest. Look for ones with an impact-resistant rating of ANSI Z87+ High-velocity impact rating or ANSI Z87.1+ High-velocity impact rating. Ideally, rubber not foam seal

Better yet, disestablish all of DHS, and undo the nightmarish idiocies that we created in a panic 25 years ago. Reestablish the INS, get rid of ODNI, fix the damage from the Patriot Act, etc.
For the love of all that is decent and holy: abolish ICE

This seems right to me. I have an ERV integrated with a CO2 monitor and home assistant. It’s great, but I think fiddling around in the single percentage points compared to just the vent fan controlled by CO2.
My point isn't to suggest that ERVS aren't cool, it's a technology I am genuinely interested in!

I'm simply saying that I'm less and less convinced they're "the key" given how well my home is performing without one.

This was one for the books! BART supporters came from around the Bay Area to Rockridge Station to celebrate the holidays at SweaterFest.

The lively energy filled the Rockridge Plaza with cheer. We crafted, danced, sang, took rides in the BARTmobile and snapped tons of pictures. It was a blast!

Don't mistake incompetence for accident. The degradation of your social media feed, the collapse of your news, the defunding of your school—it is all functional.

And finally, the assault on Section 230. This is the endgame for independent speech.

If you repeal 230, you don’t hurt Google or Meta—they have the lawyers to survive. You destroy the small forums, the independent blogs, the dissenters. You make the cost of speaking the truth too high to bear.
How Democrats’ Attack On Section 230 Plays Right Into Trump’s Censorial Plans
Like clockwork, lawmakers are once again rallying around the idea of eliminating Section 230. That Republicans are leading this charge is hardly surprising—repealing Section 230 is explicitly laid …

Indiana’s Senate has voted AGAINST the GOP gerrymander that’d have locked in a 9-0 map.

This keeps the 7-2 map in place, saving two Democratic seats heading into 2026.

The vote failed big, 19/31.

The MAJORITY of the GOP senators opposed it!

Just because it's being passed around a lot: NO, data centers in space do NOT benefit from space being cold. Space is cold in the formal sense we use to define temperature. But it is very bad at cooling. What would you rather have to cool hot metal: a lukewarm water tub or a giant cold atmosphere?
