Suffice it to say, this proposal would be the opposite of what is needed for US transportation policy.

Federal transportation spending has been ineffective, inefficient, and bad for the environment. The Trump proposal would worsen those problems.

US needs a complete rethink of transport policies ⬇️
The Reauthorization of Federal Transportation Programs Offers Policymakers an Opportunity to Improve Effectiveness, Environmental Sustainability, and Access
Federal policymakers should consider three strategies to guide deliberations around reauthorization and improvement of Americans’ quality of life.

The journey continues aboard the Mardi Gras Service to Mobile, Alabama. This service only started a few months ago and is the result of over a decade of work by the Southern Rail Service to restore Amtrak service that had been suspended since Katrina (2005).

The sad state of infrastructure building in America today
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law passed 4 years ago. In new research @urbaninstitute.bsky.social we study its effects.

US transport spending increased by 30%, but:
—Funding for non-highway projects flatlined
—Construction cost increases resulted in no actual increase in infrastructure
Federal Infrastructure Spending on Transportation, Four Years after the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act

“Whitmire, on the other hand, keeps taxpayers in the dark about what he’s doing with our tax dollars.”
“If only Mayor John Whitmire, his Public Works team and the Metro leadership he appointed had listened to experts on their own staff before deliberately breaking the backbone of our transit system, we could have avoided this entire mess.” #Houston

So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!

Seems like a good time to plan on taking Amtrak! (Though tickets are getting crazy expensive)
The #CursedRoute is now taking a 75% hit starting Tuesday.

The schedule has IAD-LGA operating the 10:12 pm Monday flight and the E175 sits at LGA until 2:55p Tuesday. Never thought this route could be even more cursed than usual, but United found a way.
