I really wish I didn't have to drive/get picked up for the last leg of this trip. I'd love for @amtrak.com and Florida/Alabama to look into supporting Thruway buses to connect to the Mardi Gras. So many beautiful & popular places are within reach!

Made it to Mobile! Now just a quick hour drive to Pensacola and I’ll be back in the motherland!

In 2016, Amtrak ran an inspection train between NOLA and Jacksonville to check out the tracks and engage the public. Nearly a decade later and we now have two daily round trips between NOLA and Mobile. Hopefully service to FL can be brought back eventually!

Amtrak’s Mardi Gras Service is the result of over a decade of work an advocacy. Prior to Katrina, Amtrak’s thrice-weekly Sunset limited used to run all the way to Orlando. I rode it between Pensacola and Mobile as a kid !

The journey continues aboard the Mardi Gras Service to Mobile, Alabama. This service only started a few months ago and is the result of over a decade of work by the Southern Rail Service to restore Amtrak service that had been suspended since Katrina (2005).

Off to Mobile, Alabama (and eventually Pensacola, FL) from Houston today on @amtrak.com ! First leg will take me to New Orleans via their Sunset Limited. Looks like we’ll be departing on-time!

Friendly reminder we passed a bond measure to fix this in 2019. Let your local leaders know we need to build out METRONext!

After a month of outages and public outcry, METRO and Houston Public Works have restored full signal priority to the METRORail Red Line.

Removing preemption had resulted in one-way delays approaching 12 minutes.

Preemption bad been removed by the City of Houston in September.

Good afternoon from the friendly skies

In France they have one line that goes everywhere instead of 3 lines going the same place 🇫🇷 I understand their confusion 🤣

The first block of the project is wrapping up! What a great way to end the #WeekWithoutDriving

A Better Ride: corridor enhancements to provide faster, more reliable trips including improved stop placement, semi-level boarding platforms, traffic flow improvements, and reinvesting savings generated from faster service into more service
October 3, 2025 at 8:05 PM
A Better Stop: improving bus stops with more waiting space, enhanced shelters, lighting, programmable spaces tailored to the customer’s needs at the stop, and customer information
October 3, 2025 at 8:05 PM
A Better Walk: improving access and the trip to the bus stop through improved sidewalks, ADA-compliant curb ramps, safe street crossings, and other first-and last-mile connections to key destinations

In the spirit of a #WeekWithoutDriving, I'd like to highlight a project I've been working on with Houston METRO to give a "BOOST" to people using our region's local bus network.

The BOOST (Bus Operations Optimized System Treatments) program aims to provide riders with the following:

Since removing signal priority, I am now able to walk faster than the METRORail Red Line. I beat the train by 3.3 minutes ON FOOT between Preston and Central.

What should be a 7 minute trip through downtown just took 15 minutes. Trains are unable to keep 6 minute headways. Bunching in downtown is affecting the preemption beyond downtown. METRO is having to add trains to keep the schedule.

The route also integrates poorly with the broader transit network.

There is still express service from the end of the line to Downtown; routes like Route 63 better serve the neighbourhoods while also traveling through downtown to other places, and 1/2 of the stations lack connections to other lines
