Melissa Kane of Connecticut Against Gun Violence is correct: inaction comes at a cost we can no longer afford.

Gun violence has in fact been treated as optional by too many of our leaders.
Opinion: Gun violence isn’t political, and inaction is deadly
No elected official should score political points off the grief of families while blocking the very policies that could protect them.

It really does not get more explicit than Trump telling top active-duty military generals that they will need to participate in occupations of large cities run by his political opponents as part of his "war from within"
Trump: "The ones that are run by radical left Democrats -- what they've done to San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles. They're very unsafe places & we're gonna straighten them out one by one. This is gonna be a major part for some people in this room. That's a war too. It's war from within"

Something happened today that captured the exquisitely painful irony of this post-Charlie Kirk moment in the United States.

It’s about guns.

"Why should I care about U.S. Space Command being transferred to Alabama? I hate the military-industrial complex. We spend too much money on defense. Why does it matter which rich people get richer off it?"

There are a number of reasons you should care, but you really only need one.

Homeschooling won’t spare you. Kids are 20x more likely to die by suicide with a gun they found at home than to die in a school shooting.
One thing that really hits you when you're directly affected by gun violence in schools is that there's nowhere to hide. Public, private, religious, whatever - unless you're going to homeschool your kids, we live in a world where they're at risk of something like this happening.

This isn’t bad luck or coincidence or predestination.

This is our choice. To live in a nation where our leaders teach hate, and military style guns are everywhere.

"There are now 64 cities that had higher rates of violent crime in 2024 than did D.C. in states whose governors are sending the National Guard to Washington to 'combat crime.'”
Went ahead and updated my map of cities with higher crime than D.C. to accommodate the two new states from the Deep South who are sending troops to the capital. In the five states there are 64 cities, home to 1.7 million people, that had more crime in 2024 than D.C.
