music dork, movie nerd, tv junkie, gaming goofus...opinions mine, unfortunately. For work I spend lots of time surveying public opinion on all kinds of stuff. Also: St. Louis Cardinals, Blues, Mizzou, and Tottenham Hotspur. #COYS

I love these morning football games because *anything* can happen, like a commercial using the phrase "NFL legend Ryan Tannehill"

The kids are all right. (Also, while I'm trying to figure out if that's a real Rickenbacker 4001 bass, I'm also realizing I don't care, because the tone is amazing here, and that color is just...I covet it.)

The Netflix miniseries Death By Lightning turns a historical footnote — Charles Guiteau's assassination of President James Garfield — into a grand entertainment, with wonderful performances by Matthew Macfadyen, Michael Shannon, Betty Gilpin, and, especially, Nick Offerman. My review:
Review: Netflix's 'Death By Lightning' gives a historical footnote a jolt
Michael Shannon, Matthew Macfadyen, and Nick Offerman lead a rollicking retelling of the assassination of President James Garfield

I know my ol' home state...er, commonwealth of Virginia quite well, and those House Delegate flips last night were in districts that were at minimum purple, and some which were Fire Engine Red.
Mike Johnson: "What happened last night is blue states and blue cities voted blue. We all saw that coming. And no one should read too much into last night's election results."

One last (fairly giddy) political post from me, then back to ephemera that is my usual nonsensical prattling:

But. You would THINK at this point that pollsters would recognize that they need to use different weighting formulae for polls on elections when DJT is on the ballot, and when he isn't.

Will we see a few more House retirements in advance of a year from now?

Bad night for AtlasIntel, and their "polling" which is actually mostly "Making shit up."

And a bad night for whichever NYT editor made them a "Select Pollster" because Atlas's made up polling numbers in 2024 were close to the final results.

Trailer for this show, which drops on Netflix on Thursday!

I truly hope:
1. More people recognize the amazingness that was James Garfield
2. More people recognize the awesomeness of Candice Millard and read Destiny of the Republic....and then read her other books as well. They're all great.

College basketball finally returns today😃

Bluesky's CBB activity is FAR too low, but I'll keep posting here all the same. Here's a big Starter Pack I created about a year ago. Share it! If there are accounts posting about ball near-daily that should be added, let me know and I'll share tonight.

I still cannot believe that Mel Brooks and Buck Henry snuck the name of this robot past network censors back in the day.

I am not unconvinced that big online sports books don't run player prop bets as honeypot traps to catch athletes engaging in prohibited gambling activity.

Was heading out for the evening constitutional and passed by the local bottle shop across the street and...what's that I spy in the window? Yes. Yesssss.

First case of 2025 enboughtened. The most magical time of the year is upon us!

Not exactly one for the Louvre, but Mizzou somehow messes their way to a win at Auburn.

Vandy looms next week. I don't think this team has that kind of juice.

My very hottest music take is that if Wilco had kept Jay Bennett post-YHF and sacked Jeff Tweedy instead, their musical output across the last two decades would be one hell of a lot more interesting and rewarding to listen to.

With all the Mike Schildt news coming out, I feel like were gonna get reaaaaally close to hearing the reason why Mo felt the Cardinals needed to trade Randy Arozarena in the 2019 off-season.

Great new song. And also: that's definitely an old clip of the band playing Strat-O-Matic baseball about a minute into the video....
Sugar are not only playing live in NYC and London next year(!!!) - there is a RIPROARING new single, “House of Dead Memories.” Amazing news! youtu.be/-S72djtUIFk?...

We are nearly through week 6 of the NFL season and I basically have no idea which teams are any good.

Doug Eddings had a fairly shaky first inning in this game.

He's somehow managed to get worse as the game's gone on.

(I have no rooting interest here -- and he's cost both teams.)
