A fun thing about reading medieval history is that every time there was a mad or out-of-control king, the word of the day was "the king is surrounded by bad advisors." No one actually believed that, but they said it because to say anything more directly meant getting your head chopped off.

If the regime was even half savvy and/or cared about democracy in any way they'd serve up the ICE agents who murdered Alex Pretti on a platter for prosecution. They're not, though, because everyone is absolutely fucking high on their own supply and they're fully committed to authoritarianism.
