It's so funny how the Roman Empire officially adopted Christianity, and it changed absolutely zero about how brutal they were in conquest and oppression.

They were just like: "ok ok guys, from now on we have to brutally dominate the world in the name of love and peace. Agreed?"

Botlicking technoslopper: "See that? That's my novel. I told the robot to vomit. I pressed the vomit button. I wrote that novel."

Begging every single "IT'S ALL OVER WE'RE ALL BEING CRUSHED BY FASCISM" post to please realize the limitations of personnel and how many you actually have.
I understand the level of :screaming-sun: on this here social media website and how twitchy everyone is. But it may say something that "enough national guard to actually mean something" requires multiple states to pitch in.

Hard to do that in more than one or two cities at a time.
WASHINGTON (AP) — South Carolina, Ohio also sending National Guard troops to DC in further escalation of federal intervention in Dem city.

...could not be converted into political power that would ultimately subvert the guardrails it relied upon. This is, I think, a real deep flaw of the post Thatcher-Reagan consensus; it does indeed empower its own gravediggers, and they're the elite. A kinda inverse of the end of the Pinochet regime.

Various aspects of market design and regulation are meant to prevent this, of course. But that only works if you think the law will be obeyed. And this then gets to the deeper problem; even when this system was working well it concentrated economic power, then had to hope that economic power...

My current theory is enough powerful people prefer bigger share of a smaller pie to make this stable. And since the nature of capitalism is that it concentrates economic power in a relatively few people if that segment are on board such a conspiracy against the public can be sustained for some time!
I'm totally baffled abt the markets. Where is Capital? Trump is messing w/ govt data; imposing tariffs; flirting w/ default; meddling in corporate management.

Where are the CEO complaints? The bond vigilantes? Where are billionaire hedge funders who trade on good data? Was Capital's power a mirage?
